For those (like ME) who struggle with a clean / convincing Retention Coin Vanish. Check out this $9 download from Ellusionist by Moritz Mueller.
If you downloaded his previous download "One Coin Routine" https://www.ellusionist.com/moritz-muell......ine.html then you already know what coin sleight skills this young man has!

His new take on the Retention Vanish redubbed ReTURNtion, which will make perfect sense when you see the mechanics of this streamlined handling. This new handling eliminates the moving fingers that telegraph the sleight that ruins the illusion of genuinely placing a coin in the other hand.
Not only, Moritz goes beyond the Vanish application of this sleight; but also uses it for Productions & Transpositions with several variations.
Multiple chapters of this download including (minutes):

INTRODUCTION (0:39)

COIN SIZE (1:37) Explaining why he uses Morgan Dollars, even though his hands are smaller.

METHOD OVERVIEW (1:38) He gives you a full tour of the method to get your gears turning before going into details.

THE GIVING HAND (11:33) Moritz spends plenty of time making clear all the details and subtleties. Clear step-by-step blocks with multiple views.

THE TAKING HAND (2:47) Once you have the Critical method of retaining in the "Giving Hand", Mueller focuses on the Hand "Taking" the Coin, and explains that the best illusion derives from a concert of Giving and Taking in a straight line from Giving AND Taking.

IMPORTANT SUBTLETIES (7:44) This section mines the Golden details; separating this from a "move" to an invisible Weapon for your arsenal! He handles the slightest break of a wrist, where your eyes should be, timing, and more...

VARIATIONS (12:15) If only you got the main sleight, it would be worth the price. Now Moritz goes on to give you more ideas and variations that shows this is WAY MORE than a vanish. Tons of added directions to go with the basic mechanics.

HOW TO PRACTICE (3:25)

BONUS: BACK THUMB PALM (6:43) This refines and expands this sleight that Moritz used on the "One Coin Routine"!

FINAL THOUGHTS (0:49)

The production is professional, clearly lit, and to the point. You get quickly to learning and practicing! (and practicing... I will!)
WELL DONE ELLUSIONIST & MORITZ!!
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

Hi like a lot his vanish move but I do not see a high retention effect.
it appears a kind of false tranfer.
i would like to know other opinions.

Do not get me wrong the vanish is clean and convincing but when I look chien or barnowsky or others I see the retina impression the so called retention while here not.
is unnecessary? perhaps he has a different approach to the sleight.

While Chien and others try to perfect the minimal fingers movement he keep the fingers extended perhaps in a more natural way.
opinions are accepted.
thanks

Thank you, this describes the download very well

Hi Mark,
I assume you refer to "the retention of vision" as David Roth describes this effect. In the trailer the focus is on how clean the technique is and it should not focus on this effect on the retina. Although retention has different meanings, returntion has this effect if done quicker and with the right light. Returntion is a variation on the classic retention vanish with the goal of elimination of all unnecessary finger movements - that's why the technique is in the focus of the trailer. In real performances a couple of subtleties could or should be used to make the magical effect convincing. Moritz is talking about that in the chapter 6 of the download "Important Subtleties"

Stephen how hard do you think this would be for a relative newbie?

Bande,
Newbie or not, it’s just a sleight that takes perseverance and practice. If you haven’t worked on a basic retention vanish, I would recommend this FREE one on Penguin. It is a basic treatise of the technique. All retention vanishes are challenging to master, but all attainable with work.
The mechanics behind the classic sleight differs from Morris Mueller’s newer take, but it at least gets your feet wet without putting cash out for it.

Chien vs Moritz vanish mechanics are TOTALLY different.
Beyond that difference: Chien’s is More an “effect”, rather than a “tool”
Moritz’s goal is to make the ‘dirty work’ so natural and relaxed appearing, he wants the spectator to really believe that the Coin is just being transferred from one hand to the other. It should look like “nothing”!
In the section on “How to Practice” he talks about how you can practice publicly without looking like a freak. He says to do the false transfer, mime the coin in the empty hand, look at it, finger the coin etc...then pretend to remove the coin, reversing the sequence showing the coin at the beginning. You will look to just be playing around and looking at a coin. Naturalness is the goal and the strength of this.
Chien’s is an Eye Candy quick effect. From the beginning to the end, it is unnatural. It isn’t necessarily bad, it looks fantastic and shocking! You instantly know something happened, and you start thinking “what’s in your hand?” If you have some good cleanup, hand washing, sleeving, TKO, topit or something your are left very dirty and suspicion is focused right where you don’t want.
So That is why I see an Effect (Chien) rather than a Tool (Moritz)

This is my opinion:
the method is good enough but I see issues for people with sweating or too dry hand.
the move must be fluid but is not simple.
the skin could influence the result.
i think okawa method is far superior.
i ahev done the move in every situation also with wet hand.
i believe this is good in. moritz hand but not. for everyone. Smile
