Introducing a brand new product from Brett Barry and the SvenPad® Supreme line of products: SvenPad® Game Night by John Morton. Brett has been teasing this release for the last few months on the official SvenPad® owners Facebook group (which you really are doing a disservice if you haven't checked it out, lots of routines and tips shared in that community). This product carries over the same high quality from the rest of the line of notebooks and pads, however, this is a fully loaded BOOK TEST! Brett did a facebook live video in the group yesterday that you can check out for specifics, however I will be doing a full review later this week after I've had time to digest the material and use it in one my strolling shows. But I will include my initial thoughts below as I did receive an advance copy. Also, a wide distribution will take place within the next few months, but Brett will have a limited amount of copies at Blackpool along with another new release as well(but this book test is the highlight for me).
INITIAL THOUGHTS: So Brett was gracious enough to send me an advanced copy. Now, to explain this further, and to be fully transparent, I did not pay for my copy and Brett is a friend of mine. However, that is not why I received a free copy or why I am posting these thoughts or the review later. Brett, 2-3 months ago on the official SvenPad® fb group, teased a new product(this one) and said that the first 5 people to comment would get a free advanced copy. So it was open to all of his customers and I just happened to be quick on my keyboard that day. He did ask for my thoughts, however, he was quick to say that he only wanted my honest impressions, the good, the bad, everything. He’s an honest guy and so am I, so I hope that makes it clear my thoughts below and the review coming later this week are 100% my own. Now, to my first impressions. All I can say at this point is that i’m more than impressed and that I will use this. This is a big deal as I LOVE book tests, but I’m selective in which ones I actually use and gig with. The first thing that was apparent with this is that it was meant for the strolling performer in mind and built with that intent. It is the PERFECT size for strolling, not too thick to weight down your pocket like other “pocket book tests” like moabt pocket (i love this test but it is too thick for the breast pocket of a suit for me to comfortably take in and out, no fumbling, etc. Gamenight is perfect. Also, the artwork looks completely genuine and normal. What I love about this is that the context of the book being a “game” you play with the audience is justified and also gives a good reason as to why you are physically using a book, instead of just having the audience think of a random word. Lastly, methods/features built in are plentiful. I will give more details of the features built in, in the review. I’ll be coy for now and not give too much depth as far as specific methods, but in addition to the obviously fantastic sven principle, there’s several others that work together to allow the revelation of pictures, titles, words, and technically full paragraphs of information. Without knowing the workings, I fully inspected the book for a solid 3-5 minutes, all the methods are so well hidden I couldn’t find them. The “pages” are the same quality you expect from Brett, and yet I couldn’t find anything different in the “pages” versus the “other pages” I feel no worry at all at giving it to a spectator to check out. Guys, you will want this. I’m really excited to keep diving in but there’s a lot built in that gives a lot of flexibility. Super pumped 😀 These are going to sell out very quickly so definitely put it on your ‘list’ for Blackpool as I believe I read on the group he may only have 100 copies for sale. Pricing will be at $99 which. Upon my initial thoughts, I think is a fair price for a quality book test with the multiple features built in that this has. I love the size, context, and slight alterations to a few well-known methods that really take them up a notch, not just individually, but also the way in which the features have been made to work together in this Book test. Brilliant idea and concept John and well done Brett. I’ll be picking up a spare. Review to come later this week. Also lastly, when referring to this test, please use the name “gamenight”, instead of the title of the book to help keep it off of search engine responses -Eli |

Thank you Eli! I cannot thank you enough for your support and I am really proud of this new REAL BOOK TEST.
Mentalist & creator John Morton in the U.K. and I have been working on this baby for a full year, and this will be "officially" released at Blackpool on the Friday with 100 copies in hand. John and I will be at the booth demonstrating the many layers of secrets within the 4x6" pocket sized game book with a media "Ch*rades" game theme. This is a full color book custom designed from the ground up. From the front and back cover (which is has a very ingenious crib built in) - all was thought of with the goal of the book looking 100% perfect like something from Amazon or a store. Making these books is a 3-4 week total production process with multiple manufacturers (we use a real book bindery in Phoenix, AZ). This is the first time we made a book using our famous precision SvenPad® quality with insanely close 1/32" long & short cuts. The graphics designing by itself was more than 50+ hours invested to make this perfect - with multiple designers and a professional illustrator. But the Sven is only part of what is going on as there are far deeper LAYERED methods here, including a cool brand new twist that allows complete freedom with not a single hint or pump needed We have a 22 page instructional PDF included with illustrations. Because of the crib on the back, you should be up and running with this on the first day received. Play a game of mental Ch*rades" (or sha-rods as the Brits say!) with at least 3 escalating phases. Yes as Eli said, the game book itself is EXTREMELY inspectable because of some clever ideas from John Morton... This is not just a one forc* wonder - there are a lot of moving parts and potential revelations here. And because it uses all famous Films, TV shows, apps, books, and games - with recognizable photos - this could probably be used in nearly any language as long as the spectator knows Star Wars, Seinfeld, Uber, etc Video teaser should be coming in the next 2 weeks after Blackpool. We will have 100 in Blackpool so if you are there please come by and meet creator John Morton and myself and we will show you how cool this is. Really thrilled with how this came out! Murphy's Magic should have this in dealers hands sometime in March. The initial supply will be fairly limited however. Here is the advert: GAME NIGHT. THE WORLD'S FIRST BOOK TEST WITH SVENPAD® TECHNOLOGY. Mentalist John Morton & Brett Barry have teamed up with this fiendishly clever "Ch*rades" book filled with mind reading secrets! This is the collaborative result of over a years’ worth of cross-continent creative back and forth. The book is filled with over 120 full color images from many of the most famous TV shows, Movies, Games, Books and Apps. SvenPad® Game Night is a unique pocket-sized book test. You can play it as a game AND you can play it as mind reading – or play it as BOTH. Some of the methods within this book are brand new, while others are a twist on the classics. This book was created FROM SCRATCH, and looks exactly like a book bought at the store. Over one year in the making. Making a BOOK to our exacting SvenPad® standards wasn't easy. The process to make these is a one month process with multiple manufacturers. The secrets within the book are well hidden and waiting for you to show your mind reading powers. SvenPad® Game Night will become one of your go-to favourites to help you slay audiences, and make you feel like a super mind reading hero. Make it fun, and make it feel real. SvenPad® Game Night is a powerhouse. SvenPad® Game Night is generously gaffed in many ways both seen (only for the performer) and unseen, with a bevy of layered methods combined in some brand-new ways. Click here to view attached image.

The idea of creating a Charades themed Book test happened after I was kindly given a sample of one of Brett Barry’s precision made SvenPads® at Blackpool U.K.
As a full time, working performer, I wanted something I could use in a walkaround environment as well as parlour or stage. I love Brett’s Svenpads as they spark my creativity in new directions and so I set myself a number of ground rules and goals for a new book test: 1. To create an effect with MULTIPLE OUTCOMES rather than just one force, but still using the Svengali principle. 2. I wanted it to look 100% like a REAL book that you could buy in any shop or Amazon. 3. It had to be the appropriate SIZE to fit in a suit jacket pocket for table hopping. 4. It had to be EXAMINABLE if given a cursory look over by a volunteer. 5. It had to require VERY LITTLE memory work. 6. It had to be usable with MULTIPLE SPECTATORS. 7. It had to be FUN! 8. It had to be REPEATABLE. This book test has been a year in the making, and meets everyone of the rules I set. Its really fun to do and I know you’re going to love performing it. I’d formally like to thank Brett for all his hard work and guidance along with his faith in this project, its been hard work but worth it! John Morton |

Review:
Okay so here it is, in time for Blackpool. This is my review after having this thing in my possession for about a week now, with a decent amount of rehearsal and an actual road test. I’m going to break up this review by going over what you receive, a physical breakdown of the book itself, and then my thoughts on all of it. Here we go. What you receive: So when you purchase SvenPad® Gamenight, which I will refer to from this point on as simply, ‘gamenight’, you will, of course, get access to the wonderful SvenPad® Facebook group if this is your first SvenPad® Supreme product. There are lots of routines and tips from workers there that really add to the value of any of the SvenPad® products. Currently, there isn’t much on tips and such on Gamenight which is to be expected as only a few other like myself have received them, and I believe that besides Bobby and Craig from promystic, I was the first, meaning that as the others that have them and as the Blackpool limited stock sells, more will be populated as with other of Brett’s releases. In terms of what your receive with Gamenight specifically, you receive the game night “book” itself (more on that later), a wonderful sleeve/packaging that you can store the book in to help protect it in your case, a very detailed 24 page pdf, you will get an instructional download(however, this hasn’t been uploaded just yet, but will be), and lastly you receive FLASH CARDS! Let’s talk about each of this, starting with the ‘extras’. Extras- Flash cards and sleeve: These things are unnecessary but I’m grateful that Brett has included them. The sleeve will be helpful for storage and puts me a bit at ease that the pages won’t get all bent out of shape and such, which for a book test utilizing the ‘sven’principle, is important to take care of. The second unnecessary extra were flash cards, detailing everything that you need to remember, making the process of learning and studying easier. A nice touch that helps the $99 price tag. Instructions: PDF So I obviously can only comment on the pdf as that is all that I have seen. The pdf is 23 pages long, and very well put together; complete with color pictures to help you get your bearings around the various methods built in. The first 13 orso pages describe the workings and the last 10 iso pages are full of various ideas on how to utilize the various methods in different ways. Let me just say that it is clearly a labor of love as in the week I’ve had this, Brett has made 4different revisions to the instructions, constantly making things clearer, adding tips and such from people like myself that have the book in hand, etc. It’s nice to have great instructions that not only tell you the workings but also give you various ideas on how to utilize them. As previously mentioned, I’m sure that as more people get their copies and starting using it, though, more ideas will populate the group. The Book itself: SvenPad® Gamenight Obviously, this is going to be the bulk of what I talk about here. The book itself measures 4x6x3/8th. To me, these measurements are important. This is being sold as a strolling book test. Now, I have used other strolling tests before, namely All about eve, moabtPE, and Looch’s Nano and I love these other tests, but their size was an issue. The AAE and moabtpe tests are just too thick for me to comfortably put them in my blazer pocket without it feeling just a little too thick. Looch’s nano test is great, however, I had the opposite problem, them being too small. Gamenight is the perfect size to be large enough with print big enough to actually read while being thin enough to disappear in your pocket, with allowing room for other things as well. When I used it I simply put other small strolling SvenPad® in the same pocket and it wasn’t an issue. The book itself is not really a book in the traditional sense, but a ch*rad*s game. I’m using asterisks to mask the title of the book. Like most games of this sort, there are categories and topics within those. This is a modern version of the game, utilizing forms of m*dia as the categories. The categories are applications, books, movies, games, television shows, and dual categories made up of a mix between 2 categories. So there are 8 total categories in this book. On each page, (including the ‘sven’ pages), there is a single specific topic with the poster/artwork/icon of that topic being in color on the top left, the category it belongs to the right of that, and then a description of what the topic is. The cover says there are 299 different topics, however, without counting them all there seem to be roughly half as many as that. Now flipping through the book, including the ‘sven’ pages, it is very difficult to ascertain the difference of the ‘sven’ pages from the other pages. As mentioned in my initial thoughts post, looking at the post for several minutes, I could not find the difference in content. Spectators just glancing at the pages will never suspect anything, both because of the content as well as typical SvenPad® quality and precision utilizing the ‘sven’ principle. The ‘sven’ pages have a bank of 8 different topics repeating on those ‘sven’ pages, however, one brilliant thing Brett has done is make the artwork (the main feature of each topic page) different throughout the repeating bank. So for example, let’s say the sound of music is one of the f*rce ‘sven’ pages(it’s not actually). That topic would show up 7 or 8 times throughout the repeating bank, however, the position would change (left page or right page) along with the artwork on those pages. The genius and what you get here by doing this is that you get a set of ‘sven’ force pages that when you flip through, look all different and genuine. However, the sven pages are only one of the methods used in the book. There is also a very well done flashback principle built in, that works to tell you the category on the reverse page(works in either direction). Since there is one force per category, though then know everything on that pages, the category, the title, and description. The flashback principle is hidden in a pretty genius way, taking cues from moabtpe and others to give a ‘cue’ instead of the original replicated type. I hope that makes sense. Obviously, though, as mentioned, here the flashback principle is hidden within the construction/graphic design of the book. In addition to the flashback, one other thing I really love about this test is that it still uses the moabt force word principle, on the non force pages. There is a repeating bank of 4 different words within the topic description section of the non force pages. What’s great about this is it is only 4 words, so easy to remember and because there are 4 words, repeating in groups of 2(left and right page of non force pages), separated by the force pages, flipping through, you won’t notice these. Also, they are all located in roughly the same position, but in my view, it is great because you can lead them to where it is, still give them a “free choice” of word to think of ala the typical moabt language to make things “more interesting” or “more difficult”, while at the same time them blending in with the rest of the text that flipping through will not yield any giveaways. I’m really a big fan that the non force pages are given a use and that they utilize the moabt style word bank. The back of the book hosts your 3 different crips, built in to both the graphic design as well as a description on the back of the book describing the “g*me”. It makes sense and means that if you were to blank, then this could save you if you have a forgetful moment. However, in my own memorizing, I have found the information very easy to remember. Which is impressive as I have 4 different tests that I use often, meaning that at any given time I have roughly 50 or so words to keep straight in my head and adding more is obviously a worry. This test though hasn’t proven to be difficult due to the nature of most of the information being media I know already. The only random things to memorize is the 4 words on the non force pages, and the 8 different titles that relate to the 8 categories. This is easy, though, as those are already linked in my head. For example, lets take a double category like film and book with the title being “of mice and men”. (again, not in the book but just an example). Of mice and men is book, but it was also made into a movie, so remembering that it belongs to that category is easy. The examples actually used are more obvious and well known, but this was the first example that came to my mind while writing this. The nice thing too about the sven 8 title bank is that because I have seen these movies, read the books, played the games, etc, you can reveal much more than just the name of the title they are thinking of. You can describe characters, famous scenes, colors in the artwork, etc, making it much more interesting for the audience in terms of reveals, it doesn’t just have to be letter reveals. Lastly, the context of the book being a ch*r*des g*me, you can also, through the context of the specter playing the game but only in their mind, do a no pumping reveal of all the information with the exception of the Long words force pages. It can be very clean, Also, speaking of the long word force pages, Brett has chosen the words intentionally to include the methodology of the fantastic Looch book tests, meaning that you are revealing correct information in those words with no pumping, disguising this process. I am VERY happy this was included. Conclusion and final thoughts: So if you cannot tell through my ramblings, I really like this. Time will tell whether it becomes my go to, but all signs point to that it will become a staple in my strolling work. I worked it at a strolling show this week with about 10 - 12 different performances. The response was great and it was a joy to use and while this was definitely made with the strolling performer in mind, it can, of course, be utilized on stage as well. Not everything is perfect and there are some very small, nitpick things that are worth mentioning. I mentioned this to Brett and while it should not be an issue, you will want to give very clear instructions for the spectator to open to book with both hands and hold each page with both hands to prevent the spectator from bending the front cover backward all the way as this will break the book binding, which is just glued. Just something to keep in mind as you definitely wouldn’t want the binding breaking of this beauty. Secondly, I do wish that the category in the top right on the pages was a bit bigger, and possible positioned differently. The reason is utilizing the flashback principle and handling on the title and artwork is totally fine, but if you want the spectator to remember the category, you have to open the book much farther and angle the book towards them more than normal in order for them to see the category symbol. To me, this is not needed, but it would be nice to have the spectator remember the title as well as the category with the flashback handling as it could mean a slower reveal and because of the position, it can’t really be done as that is in contrast with the typical flashback handling being a “say stop and just take a quick peek at the first word”. The idea being the book is barely opened in flashback handlings aiding to the belief that there is no way you could know. If I have to open the book as much as it is required for the person to see the category, that psychology doesn’t hold up anymore. Again, you don’t need to do this as typically they will just be focusing on the title which can be seen easily but I wanted to mention it. The last thing is that I wish the number on the front of how many supposed topics there are in the book was closer to accurate as it lists 299 and I think it should have said over 200 or something closer to the reality of what is actually consists of. A small point that I’m sure no-one will notice. That’s all, very small nitpicks that in no real way affect my love of this test. I love the size, the methods built in, and the context of the book being different from the other tests out there. I really do think you should consider picking this up at Blackpool but you will need to act fast as Brett will only have 100 copies I believe for sale. I’d be happy to answer any questions on here or pm, however, let’s try to keep the title of the book disguised and try to stay general with the methodology as I’ve tried to do above. Thank you to John for your work on this and Brett for bringing John's concept and ideas to life. Good thoughts, Eli |

Overall, Game Night is a worthy new addition to the pantheon of well done book tests. Created by John Morton and Brett Barry, it incorporates elements from various classic predecessors and also adds some clever new ideas.
The book's theme (charades) lends itself to fun presentations and lots of interaction. The methods are e-z to do. The book fits in a pocket. Following is what "Lateral Thinking" creator Edward de Bono calls a PMI analysis - a look at the Plus, Minus, and simply Interesting aspects of any subject. (Disclosure note: Brett sent me a courtesy copy for my honest review.) P(LUS): Different: Being both visual and verbal, Game Night stands apart from other book tests. Pocket-size: This is a good book test for strolling performers who wear jackets; I find it also fits in my back pants pocket. Multiple methods: The book incorporates Svengali (SvenPad) forcing, the Flashback principle (with a clever visual code), and a MOABT-like method. Having varied ways to get the information helps cancel out spectators' pesky theories about "how it works," increasing the bafflement factor. Easy to do: The memory work is simple, and it's also backed up by secret cribs on the back cover. You could leave the book face-down on the table and use the cribs without suspicion. Looks normal: The Svengali principle lets you (or the spectator) flip through what appears to be a regular book. Even the repeated force pages look different from each other because varied images are used for the films, TV shows, and so on. MOABT element: This approach is used on non-force pages, and the instructions teach a few ingenious methods of acquiring the necessary piece of information. A crib on the back cover serves as backup. Instructions: Thorough teaching offers various ways of displaying the non-force pages and forcing the force pages. M(INUS): Cover: The cover is a cartoon image of friends playing charades. It's nicely done and looks a bit like a book you'd see at the checkout stand at the supermarket. This makes it appear believably genuine. However, it might look a bit low-brow for performers in some corporate or elegant party settings. Binding: If the book is opened flat, the binding can break (as the instructions caution); this means extra spectator management. Mental Charades routine: The instructions outline a three-phase routine based around this game. However, it seemed to me that the first and third phases might create a problem if the same force item was chosen twice. I(NTERESTING): Prediction: You can index predictions of spectators' "free" choices in a wallet or your pockets. Idea: Take the four double-sided flash cards that are provided as learning aids and place them in envelopes; index these as your predictions. (This cuts the number of indexed predictions in half.) Supple"mental" routines: One-ahead, Tossed-Out Book, Lie Detector, Mental Epic. A Tom Cutts ploy: Designed to disguise fishing and avoid "no" answers when using an anagram method with the MOABT-style words. History: All about the various methods built into the Game Night book test. All in all, this is a fine and fooling book test with a novel theme! Jerry |
