Years ago I performed a great packet trick that was marketed (I think) by a dealer in the north of England.

Effect: the performer shows a packet of a dozen cards, all of which have holes punched at both ends. A card is selected and returned to the packet. A tiny magic wand is pushed through the holes in one end of the packet while a hair is removed from the head of spectator (not really!) and "wrapped around" the packet. As the "hair" is lifted, the selected card mysteriously separates from the others and rises up.

That's it, described very badly. Any ideas what it was called and if it's still available?

Cheers

Sounds very similar to the Oriental Surpise. Here is the description found at http://www.magicsmith.com . Hope that helps.

Oriental Surprise
Display a packet of playing cards - each with a hole punched in both ends. Explain that casinos punch holes in their used cards to make sure their not played with again.

Ask a spectator to freely choose ANY card from the packet - and to emphasize the fairness, have them select their card from a face-up spread. They replace their card any place they want (there are no controls or breaks).

Introduce an attractive Oriental wand (okay, it’s a chopstick) and stick it through the hole at the bottom of the packet. Now wave the ornate fan (included) in front of the impaled card, and their selection mysteriously rotates away form the rest of the cards and projects out of the top of the packet.

Hi Ross,

Sounds identical to a trick put out by Cliff Lount of Bradford Magic Studio.

Cliff Lount has been marketing it around 40 years, I bought it from him as a kid over thirty years ago!

Some of the newer dealers don't know what is ripped off and what isn't unfortunately.
