When I attend magic conventions, I am constantly looking for content to share with listeners for daily updates. I try to have brief conversations to give the listener a feel of who is there and what is going on from a variety of perspectives. I talk with talent, dealers, registrants, and organizers and even occasionally someone offsite at a tourist location (like a next door chocolate factory).
During the recent MagiFest in Columbus, Ohio, I spoke with Stan Allen who was one of the attendees. We chatted about what's coming up this year at MAGIC Live! plus other conventions in general. We were talking about "critics" in our craft and how there are too few, if any. At precisely that time in our conversation, Jamy Ian Swiss happened by and we cornered him. Who would be better equipped to talk as a critic than one who has reviewed magic for decades. Later that night, I talked with Tom Gagnon about some of the books he has authored and illustrated, tricks he has invented, and magic legends he has known. Both of those conversations turned out to be longer than what I usually post as a "convention update" but shorter than a full episode. But the two together fit quite nicely and make for a satisfactory, diverse podcast.
