Seem like The Magic Café is advertising the Faro Edition of Bicycle Playing cards...that is according to the PM all members receive.
Don't know how practical these cards are except for playing Faro as they have no indexes. Oh well, perhaps it is just another powerful tool in the formidable arsenal of the Magician-Card Sharp? |

Chemmy.
If there is a single truth about Magic, it is that nothing on earth so efficiently evades it.

@tommy: I don't know why Chemin de Fer would use cards without indexes. I saw Shimmy played in Vegas at the Fremont Hotel many years ago and the cards had indexes. A few years after that the Sands Hotel spread Baccarat and that was the end of Shimmy in Vegas.
It seemed that Shimmy was more of a private game among the players but if the house ran the game, as they did at the Fremont, it took a percentage cut of the winning bets. I think it was 5% but not sure. Do they use non-index cards in your area for the Shimmy games? Don't see any reason to do so except possibly tradition. Are the games private in your area, or does a casino run the games? |

Well yes, the Chemmy games are traditional. The form of Baccarat played in most casinos now is not Chemmy but “Punto Banco”, which is a term that means playing against the bank. The casinos may well use ordinary cards now but traditionally white backed, indexless cards are or were used at the upper-class private Chemin de Fer games.
ps Chemmy is not a house game but a game where the bank moves so that players bet against one another. It is a private game as a rule and the games are racked 5% by tradition.
If there is a single truth about Magic, it is that nothing on earth so efficiently evades it.
