I wish there were more details about each piece. For instance, there are so many different 3 envelope tests out there and there's no mention of what makes the one in this lecture different. Anyway, I'm looking forward to it!

Ok, here's my honest review.
This lecture is packed with smart stuff. Most of them I was familiar with and most of them I won't use, but they're smart and might be of greater value for others than myself. The first time I've got in touch with Looch's material was through his Retina... which was very disappointing for me particularly for the lack of justification in actions that didn't make sense in terms of performance, only in terms of method. I only got a subtlety to use from the whole thing. Going away disappointed, I saw Looch with bad eyes. Later, I've heard Atlas Brookings speaking well from his 4.8 minutes... he said Looch had ice in his veins and it was pure napalm... or something like that. I know Atlas, he's a very intelligent and capable performer... he wouldn't give such compliment if it wasn't really good, so I got it... and it was really good, particularly for the way to get the final kicker which I thought was very smart. I'm subscribed to the live acts at this moment... so I got his lecture from the subscriptions. Having mixed feelings about his approaches, I was really looking forward to check it. Now, I'm very convinced of Looch's high caliber as a mentalist peformer, particularly after witnessing what he did in his presentation of "The Line Up"... I think the Devil himself possessed Looch at that moment... I couldn't help but smile looking at how diabolical he could be on the spot! Now for the review: Would you rather - A fun prediction as the opener. I loved the presentation but I was familiar with this kind of method and it isn't for me. With a little bit of creativity, I think I can adapt it using methods that I'm more comfortable with. There's also a subtlety I was familiar with, which unfortunately didn't work but that's no problem, and it will be of value for whoever don't know it. Inspire and explore - I've seem this concept be used for a peek before but here Looch puts his own spin to it. He takes advantage of the routine's structure to cover what needs to be covered. Dan Harlan admitted to have no idea of what exactly it was about (he wasn't trying to figure it out though). I caught the two fishy moves myself (one of them in particular I don't like... it doesn't look logical to me) and imagined something that could be going on, but I didn't really bother to figure out what it could be either, as I was more interested in the presentation. It's a very smart gimmick and Looch's style of making such gimmicks makes it durable. I'm not going to use it but this is smart (if I used it though, I wouldn't use the proposed handling). The Line Up - To me, this was the star of the show. I won't use it though, because I already have my own psychometric test along the same lines (sorry for the pun). I loved to see that he uses the same justification I use for something that actually serves as a logical disconnect against the two main methods (although it was not mentioned in the lecture). Also, I'm more focused on mindreading which is my kicker... his kicker is more towards influence/prediction. Even though I'm not going to use, each part of this routine was very smart. I particularly liked the part about the pens. There's a little something here about the method that bothers me (something that isn't necessary further in the routine) and is something I've addressed in my own routine getting rid of it... but it's something quite small that I can see why Looch didn't bother getting rid (and most wouldn't I belive), that's just me and my *** perfectionism... I prefer to take things out of the way whenever they're not necessary anymore. There's also a great idea here to make your job easier to get things done when they shuffle (yes, I was doing the old fashined way)... now I intend to use it together with the old fashioned way! Another thing I must mention... Looch did something VERY DIABOLICAL during the performance... something that will not happen often, but man... it was great fun for me to see Looch getting possessed by the Devil. I couldn't help but smile... XD School Days - Essencially, this is a tribute to the classic Cassidy's 3 envelope test with subtleties to get more information that I was already familiar with. He explains how to construct the props too. Overall, this lecture is packed with smart stuff. Don't get much of my words mentioning that I "won't use it" as something bad... this is simply because I already have my own act down solid and preferred methods. I avoid gimmicks, that's all. But this is certainly fantastic material. My sincere thank you Looch! This was fantastic! Max

Have just watched this through, and I enjoyed it a lot.
I'm a bit biased towards Looch, as while I've never met him he's one of my favourite performers, to the extent that I tried to book him for my dad's 70th this year, but he can't do the weekend it is (misery). I thought Would You Rather was nice, and while I had the method from the effect, I didn't spot the actual method if that makes sense. It's nice and I'm sure many will get use out of it. His variation on N&P was lovely, in my opinion. I had assumed that the 'lope was a different method, and was pleasantly surprised. The ESP switch, although not Looch's is something that I first saw when he used it on one of his other Penguin lectures and have used ever since. If you're familiar with BC's version then this for me puts a nice spin on the more-traditional handling. Line Up for me was the weakest, not because it was bad, but I think that was more to do with the environment as opposed to the effect itself - the necessity to hide the pen colour came across as a bit awkward due to the proximity of everyone - and the difficult spec didn't help with the smooth running of the effect. In the explanation he touches on an addition to the final revelation that I was expecting (at least something like it) during the performance. Skool Daze, which surely must be the correct spelling, was a slight twist (with a thorough explanation) of 4th dim tel. I loved it, honestly, and although I subscribe these days would happily have paid full whack. A good few weeks for the still-new format from Penguin what with the Sal Piacente one as well. Cheers Looch. Adrian |

I really enjoy Looch's work. I have his 2 Penguin Live lectures and, of course, pre-ordered his Penguin Live Act as well. I rather enjoyed it despite not seeing a lot that I would add to my act. The pen thing, though, yeah, that's getting added, so even if that was the only good part, it would have been worth the money (and there were several good parts in my opinion).
Here's what was most interesting to me though. I watched this on TV (streamed from my computer to my Xbox) and my wife watched the performance with me. She...did...not...like...it. Which was fascinating. She felt it was slow and there were moments, like the HILARIOUS joke (I laughed at least), about calling the school friend in from the side of the stage that she thought actually hurt the overall act. Using the friend thing as an example, my wife felt like "that would have been a good trick, bringing the friend in, but instead let me just tell you what you wrote on a card, what a let down." And it wasn't just this criticism either, which was fascinating to see from my perspective. I enjoyed this Live Act. I definitely got value from it. Some very clever moments for sure. Based on my wife's unsolicited response though, I'd be curious to see if anyone else just wasn't moved by the actual act itself. |

I can see why your wife may have 'not liked it'
Especially when the Penguin audiences have [normally] been really easy to play to and get good laughs... I guess this ACT made me yearn even more for the old LECTURE format The performance on the night felt a little flat and didn't really build to a peek I would suggest this could have been for many reasons... [one of which is after having done 2 lectures already Looch has less of his actual 'A' material that he uses in every gig to fall back on] ... another possible reason is if the audience sees more than one ACT a night - maybe this was the first one [when they are colder, as well as cold - as Looch mentions it was cold weather at the end]... maybe he went on after some crazy upbeat performer and so the energy/expectation wasn't right Also I would guess this isn't a real ACT - so if you suddenly take out a few of your normal pieces and your final effect... you may get a slightly less than ideal performance... especially as you [the performer] are not building to an end that you can trust All the pieces did seem a little subdued But having said all of that, I think Looch is excellent. I think some of his own effects and ideas are very strong. And if he's coming on to do a third lecture for Penguin - not just Penguin themselves but their customers must agree that he is putting out very strong 'lectures'. So maybe it's just that mentalism can come across as being a 'bit boring' - to some people... as if you are trying to actually mind read/etc - the act will maybe lag for some people. This has long been a criticism from various quarters about mentalism. Anyway Looch himself gets 5 stars from me |

I noticed some of the audience seemed distracted in their own looks/thoughts - while procedure stuff was being done [i.e. some were writing stuff and some of the others were having their own chats nothing to do with the show - if you watch carefully]
And you may have lost the attention of some people when a guy on stage, who is in the effect, is switched off enough from what he's doing to comment on how nice your shoes are... hmm But that isn't necessarily down to Looch – as if he was the third show they all saw, or they’d all been waiting around… or they just weren’t a particular focussed group… I wondered if they were the same audience that had just seen David McCreary [?] or some other high paced act? Again Looch didn’t do badly – it just wasn’t an act [mentalism?] that your wife’s liked… and I’d rather it was just a lecture – so the audience part doesn’t matter to me. And even saying all this – it wasn’t even a bad performance. I was just shocked how easy a ride Manos got [from the audience, as in a second language – I think he would struggle in some tough gigs] – so I thought Penguin audiences were like L&L ones back in the day. But on this day Looch got a much tougher to please audience, if he’d had Manos’s audience – I’m sure [strangely] your wife would have enjoyed watching it more too…. C’est la vie |

I've had a chance to watch this through twice already and I thought Looch did an excellent job, I was particularly touched with his tribute to Bob Cassidy. It weird to say this but out of all the work in the field mentalism I relate most to the works of Looch and Bob Cassidy. It now makes so much sense why I like looch's material as were massive Cassidy fans. Sentiments aside, now for the effects.
Introduction - The opening speech/disclaimer was something I was really happy to see. I've used similar lines myself and it gives me confidence that a professional is doing it too. It shows I'm on the right track. From a moral point of view I've also found it hard to play up the psychic element of what we do and I'm glad Looch shut this down right from the start and gave a logical but false explanation of how this stuff might work. Bravo! Would You Rather - I really enjoyed the presentation, as like most of looch's material it is simple and direct. It wont get massive gasps but is a "fun" game that helps him get his personality across and warms the audience up. The method is also solid but something I wouldn't use (Beacause I'm too lazy to make it up, not because it's bad). It has already inspired me to create my own method for close up which I'm so happy about, thank you for the inspiration. Inspire/Explore - Looch's version of Annemanns two billet test or Cassidy's Name/Place. The method yet again is solid. As we all know the effect is strong but Looch has added enough variation to make this unique and his own. You get a learn a very clever peek. It didn't fool me as I knew about his blink wallet but It will fly over the laymens heads. I also liked that he didn't do the second reveal straight away. The only problem I had with Cassidy's original masterpiece was he revealed the information straight after he said it was elimanted. It makes sense to come back to it at a later point. Even if you don't perform the effect at least you've learnt a really good peek that you can apply to other things. He also teaches an amazing envelope switch(Cassidy's)that I'm absolutely obsessed with and if you've never seen it before your in for a treat, it can be applied to so many things. The Line Up - I loved this. The method is simplicity in itself and I really enjoyed the presentation. It didn't fool me as I own a stealth assassin so knew the principle at play but the routine was entertaining and logical with a cool kicker that the audience didn't expect. This is worth the price of admission by itself. Usually I find chair tests can be a bit confusing and your essentially predicting the same thing over and over again. By combining sneak thief/desire with a chair test helps eliminate some of that and it feels a lot less pointless! 10/10 School Days - Looch's take on 4DT. This is a classic and for good reason. The routine kicks ass. Now If I was going to make one critique it is maybe the handling isn't the most original. I've seen Marc Paul and Luke Jermay use similar methods but yet again I don't really care. It nice to have a thorough explanation of how it works and how to make the required gimmicks. Unfortunately during Bobs Penguin Lecture he'd had a few too many rums so its a bit hard to follow. I'm glad there is a clear and solid explanation on video teaching this effect well and does it justice. It is an absolute classic and the more people who are persuaded to do strong solid mentalism the better for us all. P.S My girlfriend thought the gag was funny, keep doing it - it got the best reaction all night! Overall I thought this Live act was superb and I would recommend it to anyone, Its up there with my favorites so far. You've been handed a professional, strong and complete mentalism act from start to finish. I've always enjoyed Looch's material but it was cool to actually see him perform. I may be a bit biased because his thinking/presentation style seems very similar to mine but even if your take on mentalism is different the methods are all solid and worth while knowing. Excellent job.
