I'm looking for the type of "paper" US bills are made of... or "paper" that behaves and lasts the way bills do. US bills are made of a linen and I've heard people refer to rag cloth or suggest tyvek, but I'm hoping to learn of other alternatives and to hear other suggestions.

Without knowing how you want to use it, it is very hard to offer suggestions. There are many paper to bills effects, as in the Himber Wallet routines, then there are the in the hands versions, by Pat page, Fred Kaps, and others.

The Paper I found that would not show the bill through when glued to a bill, was a school paper for science glasses. It was opaque, and white for the Himber Wallet. For others like Fred Kaps, a heavy magazine paper from the full page ads with lots of designs and color.

The trick is not just paper to bills, but it is normal paper, totally changing to real money. So the paper you display, has nothing to do with transformation to Dollar Bills, except for the size. The problem with magazine paper or even newspaper, is that they wear out quickly at the crease/fold. That is why tyvek is suggested, as it will last longer. It also will wrinkle if you crumble the paper, much like old used bill you sometimes get in change.

As a person who spent a lot of time looking for the correct paper in many stationary stores (kind of obsolete these days), that high quality resume paper is closest to the feel of bills, as it has 25% cotton rag content. Most are embossed with that if you hold the paper up to the light.

If you are a U.S. citizen, then you know it is against the law to make anything that resembles our currency. So you desiring such an items would have the FBI at your door very quickly.

One last suggestion, it has been said counterfeiter's have been known to bleach real dollar bills and them print over them a higher denomination bill. So you might try that, but don't tell anyone. I know nothing about the bleaching process. I am sure you can find something about it on the internet, but remember the government is watching those websites. Heck, they may have set them up for entrapment.

Hi Bill! As always, thank you for the great input.

I'm using this to change blank bills to real ones, ala Pat Page (Extreme Burn) and want paper that will stand up to abuse like bills would, and which I can also write on.

I laughed out loud when you mentioned counterfeiting and the FBI. So true.

Yes, do a search on the Internet, I believe you an print on Tyvek as was discussed here on the Café. That way you can make it look like Newspaper, or magazine paper or any paper you want it to look like.

I perform a bill switch from paper to a million dollar bill and use printer paper.
Visit your local Walmart and check out their stationary section.
They have a wide variety of different quality paper.
They have some quality parchment paper that may fit your needs.

So what is so great about "Bee" paper? Will it hold up to repeated fold/unfold, as with a Patrick Page or Hundy gimmick?

Thanks for the reference, but watercolor paper is usually has a very rough surface, not anything like currency.

Can you tell if the surface is smooth, as the photo, does not offer a very closeup shot of the paper surface.

Watercolor paper is available in two finishes - cold or hot pressed. Cold pressed has a textured or bumpy finish where as hot pressed is smooth. The link above is for cold pressed but there is also a plethora of choices for hot pressed on Amazon. Maybe davidpaul$, who recommended the paper, can enlighten us more about the qualities of this paper.

I have a friend that works for Treasury.
Counterfeiters will bleach $1 bills until they’re clean and reprint $20 on the same paper.
The main obstacle for counterfeiters is getting the paper.
Hope that helps.
