Hi all - I'm posting this with Steven's permission. I know Steven very well - in addition to sharing magic with him, I've also served as his physician over the years.

Steve has to overcome many challenges, both physical and psychological, over the years. For example, he was so blinded by cataracts in the past that he was totally unable to identify a playing card held in front of his face (I helped to get those fixed). Magicians who have followed Steven on these boards are also well aware of some - let's say - "bad boy" behavior issues within the community. Unbeknownst to Steven, during that period, he was suffering from the effects of severe bipolar mood disorder. Once we got him hooked up on the right medications, he stabilized.

However, his life became way more complicated after that - he and his wife took over the (uncompensated) raising of her niece and nephew. This placed a great deal of stress on them for the past few years and Steve's mood gradually worsened again, making it very difficult for him to find work outside of the home. Friction developed within his marriage that, over time, have led to the present circumstance of divorce (which Steven describes on the Go Fund Me site).

He does have a difficult path ahead of him. Currently, he needs a vehicle, place to live, and a job (or work that he can do at home). He truly is panicking and is doing his best to cope.

Sorry to make this such a downer post, but Steve is a good man and I thought that some background explanation would help reassure magicians that this is not BS. My wife and I have supported Steve and his wife over the years. It always feels good to help those in need.
Life is an improv. The game goes on...
