This is the the latest wallet from Gerard Kearney. Many of you will be familiar with his line of wallets already, but this is my first. In short (spoiler alert, and I'm not saying anything owners of his wallets don't already know): I love it.

The meandering roundabout review:
Like many others, I can see how a love for "the latest wallet" can be an addiction. Knowing there are "magic wallets" out there, I've done two things: I know what I want out of a wallet, so I've looked for the best thing suited for my needs while also learning what some other wallets are capable of (thanks to inspiration from favored routines of magicians I admire both here and in "the real world") and have thus been convinced I need that wallet. Obviously we don't "need" a wallet, but for card to wallet, it makes it easier (I did it 20 years ago with my normal wallet through palming and also using the original Mullica... Imagine a 20-year old college kid carrying that large one around, ha. I still love it though.)

Then I got an Outlaw Peek wallet I also still enjoy using from time-to-time. But in the last year, I got a Hideout, then sold it and got a Showdown. I'll be keeping my Showdown, it's big but has its uses for sure. But it's a for-performance wallet only (the peek function is great though). I also got a good deal on Tony's incredible "The Complete Peek Wallet" and immediately admired the peek. Fantastic wallet. I've also adjusted a regular wallet (thanks to Tom Phoenix's creation) to make a great peek.

Then I learned about the Quiver wallet the same time I heard about Gerard's wallets and knew I had to have one or the other. The reason was because I thought I could use either one as my everyday carry and that was important to me. I don't perform professionally as much as I used to. But I do still perform a lot casually and I like to be armed in numerous ways, ready to go. Having a normal wallet that was also not a normal wallet appealed to me, like any of us. If I have a wallet that functions as a normal, daily, and totally innocent-looking wallet that also serves to allow a devious CTW or peek, all the better. But it has to look and "be" a normal wallet to me first. That means not obnoxious in size, not accidentally discover-able if possible, useful for cards and money, and made to last.

Enter "The Peek Note Wallet".

It's a tri-fold peek wallet that holds money and has a different peek than the other peek wallet he offers. It looks and feels wonderful, not too big or obnoxious, and solved so much else that troubled me (even if only a little) about experiences with other wallets. The peek is so well motivated, you end clean, and it's easy and quick. The peek itself is justified, whereas I feel with my old trusty Outlaw peek for example (the one you got personalized in the window), I had to find a reason to justify a look at it little more so (if I wasn't going to put it away in my breast pocket vs jean pocket. The peek on the way to a jacket pocket is well justified).

Short version
The leather is great, and the signature blue stitching is such a fun touch. It comes in a nice package with a link to a short but instructional video with Gerard himself explaining the workings with a live performance of the wallet in use. It fits all the cards I use and has a roomy billfold compartment. Fun fact, I just noticed I can use it with my Rainbow card "Justin Flom style" when he was on James Cordon (and hey, it can stay there, and the peek function can still be used unhindered). How awesome. It won't hold my Powerball 60, but hey, can't have it all. Smile

But yes, this is great and I'm excited to use it as my everyday carry. When I'm in the mood for a CTW I'll carry my Quiver, although I know his CTW is great as well, I just was attracted to the look of the Quiver.

I believe it sold out fast at Blackpool, so I'm not alone in singing its praises. Well worth the investment. Congrats Gerard, love it.

Great review, Nathan, and what a beautiful wallet.

I don't buy wallets anymore, but am still tempted from time to time when a high-quality one is released.

Have to be honest, the peek didn't seem to me to be motivated or justified in the demo video. It looked like he put the card in the wallet and then just blatantly peeked it.
I was bit disappointed in that it didn't seem to be on an offbeat or anything. I'm hoping I'm wrong because otherwise I really like the wallet and what it offers.

You make a fair point. As all peeks have their own weaknesses, I can live with the apparent (although miniscule) pause to peek while putting it away. For me, this peek trumps a second return and re-open to a wallet (my Showdown). It also trumps the JAKS style peek (again, for me) as I don't like a lower pocket return stolen glance or leaving the dirty side exposed (which I do with my Outlaw half the time).

Again, personal preference. But this thing checks a number of boxes for me. Smile

I bought this at Blackpool off the man himself, what a lovely guy to deal with btw.
It’s a beautifully made wallet with a very justifiable p&&k, I own many wallets ( like a lot of us) and I’m sure this will be used often.

Because we still buy it! if we didn't they would be forced to lower their prices to something more reasonable.....Its like all the recent sales going on the last few months. Its all the stuff sitting around in the warehouses not selling anymore - so they're dropping the prices to get rid of it. If the wallets weren't selling, you can bet they would drop the prices and reset the market values.

I am not a wallet fanatic by any means and in fact do not even own a specialist wallet. I use my everyday bill and card wallet which can also carry 22 cards incorporating 12 effects and is not in any way heavy, oblong or obtrusive. So no need to rush into anything larger at this time. However this item only mildly interests me. Moreso I might like any other wallet with features only for the mentalist as I have no interest whatsoever in a card to wallet or changing card (or anything) feature. I could use a good peek though but even that is not necessary and I would only do in casual situations as for show purposes I use PIN which allows you to look(not peek) in front of your face and hold as long as you wish or need without anyone being the wiser.

Open to suggestions.

Hi Videoman,
Thanks for the post. My name is Gerard, the creator of the wallet in question.
Here are my thoughts and process.
I wanted to shoot a trailer that was uncut and 100% honest. Therefor magicians know exactly what to expect and know whether or not the product was for them.
Of course you can do a nice delayed peek which is thought in the download ( closing the wallet and reopening later to get a card and in this action gain your peek). But this has been done with many other wallets out there so I wanted to show versatility.
I promise the performance is 100% authentic, and the moment of peek is invisible albeit nonchalant.
My thoughts on using wallets for magic are as follows, The wallet should play the smallest part in the spectators mind. In the video, we start with a card, as soon as the card is placed in the wallet, the wallet is then put away and from the spectators point of view, the process starts from here. So when you get to the punch line, there is no wallet and it plays a very small part in the whole routine or so it seems and who knows, maybe when the spectator recalls what happens, they may not even remember a wallet ever existed!

The peek used in the promo is called the primary peek, and is different with regards to the timing of the peek. For me its a huge quality being able to choose from different peeks in real time, as in close up conditions vary from group to group.
I'm not trying to change your mind on what you think, but I am glad that you can choose from the video whether or not this is for you.
The other selling points of the Peek Note Wallet is it really is an everyday wallet, It looks and feels like it should, space for bills/notes and lots of credit/business cards. The leather is a lovely soft nappa and craftsmanship that has been well noted by others.

As I did before, I can offer a magic Café discount to all fellow members. Please use code "Mcafe20" at checkout (available for the Peek Note only)

I must say I don’t rate PIN, who or why would you have that on a envelope.
Also the black art doesn’t do it for me nor the squeeze that is necessary on the sides, this wallet is at least an everyday normal item imo. Olly

What are the differences between the Peek Note Wallet (https://www.secrettannery.com/product-page/the-peek-note-wallet) and the Peek Wallet (https://www.secrettannery.com/product-page/the-peek-wallet)?

The images look very similar.

The peek itself is different, and the Note version has a slot for bills of course (notes). They're all well made and get rave reviews.

I have this but I don’t personally use it for a peek as I also have a Jaks wallet from Gerard that is absolutely beautiful. I personally use this for a crib and it works absolutely beautifully for that purpose. Like all of Gerard’s wallets it is absolutely gorgeous, the quality is second to none.
