Hey guys,
So I just got this being that I am a fan of bank night style routines. This is fantastic. Very fair procedure, and spectator can mix all 8 envelopes, and you will always come out on top. You can spin this anyway you want, you don't have to use bills. This is a fooler. There is lots of psychology and lots going on, that nobody will figure this out. Works great for strolling, close-up, parlour, stage. I bought it from Penguin Magic. Great release, easy to do, and you can do it within minutes of learning it. Alex Alejandro

Looked like a variation of the 10 card poker deal to me and very similar in plot to Boris Wilds version.

Ditto to everything Alex said, except the title should be Bankwave.
Great routine, extremely clever, everything seems very fair and aboveboard, and excellent deal for the price. http://www.penguinmagic.com/p/11610 |

I agree, looks like 10 card poker deal methodology applied to envelopes. I first encountered the principle in the works of Doug Dyment.
I would love to know what is new here apart from using envelopes instead of cards? |

Can anyone confirm if the spectators are given 2 cards to choose at a time, as it looks that way from the video, but since it is not a full, un-cut production, I'm not sure?

You allow the free choice of 2 envelopes at a time, every time.
This is very clever and I like it a lot. My only complaint, really, is that the instructions are done on a black table and with black envelopes and you can't see them at all for most of the video. That being said, John's instructions are perfectly clear and you should have no trouble learning the method regardless.

Thanks for the info.
How are the last 2 envelopes dealt with, as the video doesn't show this - ie. when the last 2 envelopes are placed on the table, does the spectator choose 1 and the performer takes the other (last envelope)? |

Volunteer(s) make all the decisions for who gets which envelope from start to finish. The last two are very cleverly handled and it is probably my favorite bit of work in the whole thing.

So no sneaky envelopes. I imagine you can use pay envelopes if you want to walk it around. Just don't tear them open

Normal envelopes. He uses stickers to keep the envelopes closed so they can be used repeatedly.

Always a pleasure, Dee. As I said, even with the visibility issue it was clear as a bell regardless.

This is great!
I had my reservations about this being similar to the 10 card poker deal... but knowing that this fooled Jan Forster, I knew it was good. So I picked it up. My biggest fear was if the end would be what I expected... because I thought man... that would be disappointing. Let me tell you, the end was exactly what I thought and I was NOT disappointed. I used to use this concept (that I came across through Doug Dyment) together with Disjuncture (also from Dyment). Now... I'm going to use this routine together with his subtlety from his 10 card poker deal (which can be found in his supplement section). With that subtlety, you not only give even more choices to the participant... but depending on the choices, you don't even get to the final phase of this routine. I hope it's clear what I mean. This is probably the most comercial version imo, particularly for not needing something commonly used in this kind of effect. I loved it! I'll use it! Max

I'm guessing it is a free choice other than the last 2 envelopes; and then using an e******** for the last 2...

I really like the handling of the effect, John has really done a great job. For me the process of opening all the envelopes seems to take a lot of time which I'm not so fond of and Im not usually a fan of sucker effects in general. John performance is really like able so he has no problem with it and Im sure most of you wont either. I plan on using the method but changing the presentation/props. I will use 8 business cards instead, 4 will be blank and the other 4 will have 'YOU/HAVE/BEEN/INFLUENCED'. The removes the sucker element and all the envelope opening. All in all its a solid release and worth your time, you may not use the effect as performed but it may inspire you to use the method for something else. 4.5/5

Terrific idea Arthur T. Makes it much easier to carry as well. You could have it in your wallet all the time, ready to go.

I really love this and I particularly like the handling of the last 2 envelopes. It’s an absolute steal at the price. I too am not a fan of the traditional I win you lose nature of bank nights. Personally I will place a lottery ticket in each of the “empty” envelopes. My envelopes will contain slips of paper, blank on the side showing towards the spectators when removing from the envelope and a word on the side facing me. This will allow me to place the sheets down to form a message such as You Utter Lucky Bastage. Ok not that message but you get the idea.

I imagine you'd have to mark the envelopes in that case so you know what order to do the reveal, otherwise it may loose some of the impact.

No need to mark the envelopes, the spectators see a blank piece of paper but I can see the word so I know where to place it, simply open the envelopes, blank, blank, blank, blank. At this point the spectators don’t care whether I put it down to the left or the right of the previous one. They think it’s all over then you hit them with the surprise which can be played any way you want for example as a magician you can say “Would you like to know how it’s done?” Then turn them over to reveal “All done with mirrors”. Or you could have Haven’t the foggiest idea! The possibilities are endless. Also as nobody is paying attention to where you put the blank slips with a tiny bit of time misdirection they may well remember it as the words coming out of the envelopes in the right order (and sometimes they will).
Hmm and a very nice idea for the message, you know what’s special about those lottery tickets?. .... .Every .... one’s ,,,, a ..... winner! Boom mic drop! Mark |
