Has anyone involved with climate science lied to put forth an agenda? I notice how you dodge uncomfortable questions.

The only statistics I have are those of expert scientific consensus: studies show 97% of actively publishing climate researchers agree that humans are responsible for climate change. Just like 99% of scientists working in relevant fields (earth and life sciences) agree that evolution is fact.
In science, these things are non-controversial. They are only controversial among the general public. When the global scientific community is so overwhelmingly united in agreement regarding something, I tend to lean on their side, rather than on the side of skeptical non-scientific experts.

Again you dodge the question. OK no worries.
I didn't ask who you agree with. That is clear.

I think that this thread may qualify as nothing to make something and now the process appears to be reversing itself from something to make nothing.

As in, this thread began with a (big) bang, but is now dissipating into nothingness (like the eventual death of the universe, after all the stars in all the galaxies eventually exhaust their fuel and burn out)?
Or collapsing under its own weight, back into that original primordial singularity again? In Hinduism, the universe is created not just once, but many times. The cosmos is born, it endures for eons, it eventually is destroyed, but then is reborn anew. And this “recycling” or “reincarnation” of the universe repeats itself, over and over again, forever. Sort of like if the Big Bang was eventually followed by a Big Collapse, which is then in turn followed by another Big Bang. And then another Big Collapse. And yet another Big Bang. And so on, ad infinitum. Just like this endless thread. (A few pages back, didn’t somebody mention pizza and beer? Only available while a universe exists, so pardon me now while I go start scraping my nickels together in hopes of affording some tonight.)

We don't bring in our faith based beliefs to discussions of the world itself ..,unless we wish to have them directly tested and dismissed as Newton did to competing descriptions of gravity as due to vortices or an inverse distance ( rather than squared) formula. The comment "not even wrong" is not what people want to hear about their institutional faith based mythos.
If you have a more accurate and efficient theory about our observed world... bring it out so it can be celebrated and you can be lauded.

Hence the disturbing current rising prominence of anti-vaxxers, Flat Earthers, moon-landing skeptics, and other science-deniers. I think I've agreed with all your posts in these recent threads, but disagree with this one. The anti-vaxxers are not science-deniers. They believe in science and as far as I know they are not appealing to religious arguments to back up their case. They are using the normal scientific means of arguing the available evidence. You may not agree with their arguments or the quality of their evidence, but that is something that is playing out in a scientific arena, not a supernatural one.

Again, I never claimed that something came from nothing, so I don’t know why you keep bringing that up. Regardless, the irony to all this is that many people believe they have a relationship with the ultimate thing that has no causal explanation. Ron

Some times I open my class at the beginning of a new school year by telling the kids to write down everything they are about to see. Their goal is to observe whatever they can, and later share and compare notes with other students as to what they saw. I then do a short magic show. All this really proves is that I can control (to some extent)_ what they see and how they observe. Magic and misdirection color the viewpoints of the kids. It is a fun exercise and it sets the tone for future observations. Every now and then, I get an observation that is right on. The magic did not fool or misdirect that student. Rare, but it does happen.
Scientists have many rules for scientific observation. This exists mainly to eliminate bias, and bias can come in many different forms. As soon as you mention spirituality to anyone, bias arrives in the room loud and clear. It does not matter what they believe or don't believe. Bias is nearly impossible to eliminate.
Magic is like Science,
Both are fun if you do it right! |
