Hey guys! Just wanted to let you know about my latest release, Blankrupt. This has been a project over three years in the making! Heres the ad copy:

Quote:

The “Omni” plot is immensely popular. And for a good reason. It’s stunning and spectators love it. But there is an inherent problem with it. It’s always the magician’s item that changes.

Imagine if you could borrow an item from a spectator. A deeply personal and precious item. And change it to a clear, perspex version.

Thanks to the inventive Josh Janousky, now you can.

“Blankrupt” lets you borrow a credit card/ID/drivers’ license and with a wave of your hand transform it to an “omni” card instantly. And you can immediately hand it out for examination. Then, when you desire, you return it to its natural state. Or make it appear from your wallet, or other impossible location.

Direct, visual, organic magic at its very best.

This is something you will always carry in your wallet and always want to perform.

The informed among you will realise that Alan Rorrison had some work on this plot, but fear not, this is released with his blessing.

And it will work with any card in the world. You can pick from USA/Canada style (8.5mm) or Rest of the World style (13.5mm).

You receive:

- Two plastic cards
- 4 chip stickers
- Online instructions

Available in two styles: Thin Strip (8.5mm - USA and Canada cards) and Thick Strip (13.5mm Rest of world).

"I love Omni effects! Josh has taken it from a card trick to an organic miracle."
Justin Flom

"A card trick that non magi would care about. Making magic that touches on things that matter to audiences is a challenge. Blankrupt takes a color change, which is one of the most enjoyed card effects, and combines it with something modern and borrowed. What's not to like?"
Garrett Thomas

"Blankrupt is the only omni plot that makes sense. It's something I carry in my wallet at all times."
Patrick Kun

"Blankrupt reimagines a classic plot with an object that people care deeply about. It's a perfect marriage!"
Jeff Prace

So not only do you make the card clear, but unless I’ve got this wrong you also make all the raised printing disappear and the card becomes smooth. Surely the first reaction will be you switched it.

Some palming must come into play? Would a nice card to wallet work well with this routine?

Hey guys! Thanks for dropping by, let me answer these questions for ya!

Rowland - The way I present Blankrupt, is I talk about how most people don't know this, but its not the information printed on the card that makes a credit card a credit card, but rather the information stored in the magnetic strip and chip. When someone wants to steal your account, all they have to is have that information. I then demonstrate by "wiping" their account, and leaving the card with just the information I need. I then give them one of my cards from my wallet, which in turn, turns out to be their card. This was one of my go to effects when I was a full time restaurant magician, that I would use night after night. It was a fun one to do when a group was waiting to pay. Another handling I teach is a routine that Garrett Thomas contributed, where you use silly putty to take the color and print off of the card. There are some very nice subtleties in this routine that allows you to show your hands and the putty empty, before, during, and after the trick.

Riffraff - On the project I teach around 5-6 different routines. Some require palming, some do not. The routine that Bro Gilbert helped contribute requires no palming at all, and allows you to make it appear without the need for a card to wallet. The version I use the most however, does us a card to wallet. In the trailer you'll be seeing me with a real mans wallet, but I now use the Quiver CTW.

Chamberlain - As I mentioned in my reply to Riffraff, with Bro Gilbert's routine, your hands are completely empty, and you have nothing to hide. Like I said I performed this routine in the restaurant night after night, and I never once had someone ask or look at my other hand. On the project I cover routines from Garrett Thomas, Patrick Kun, Kostya Kimlat, Bro Gilbert, and myself, and I go over every single detail you need.

The trailer doesn't actually show a routine so it's hard to see if what your getting is practical for the real world.

Seriously? Knowing what the prop and effect is, if you really need to see a full routine then this is obviously not for you. Not to be mean but how long have you been involved in magic? I thought I remember one of your posts saying 30 years? Really?

More credit cards are starting to be made with printed numbers instead of raised numbers. All but one of my cards that I carry no longer have raised numbers.

Hey there. As stated above, this was something I used in the restaurant all the time. So I can assure you it’s very practical in the real world. You’ll basically learn the following routines. A routine where you cause their card to turn transparent and then reappear inside your wallet. One where you use your phone to take the information from their card (turn it clear) and “print” a new copy. A routine where you take the color off of the card with silly putty, before putting the color back on. A routine where you visually change their card clear, before changing it back. And finally a standard “Omni” style routine, where you can either change the cat’s back to normal, or make it reappear elsewhere. Routines were contributed to the project from Garrett Thomas, Patrick Kun, Kostya Kimlat, Bro Gilbert, and then obviously, myself. There are routines that are alright intensive, ones that require no sleight of hand, and there are ones requiring minimum sleight of hand. Hope that helps!

So usually I rely on all of the Café members' excellent and insightful reviews before I purchase something new. However, this really looked appealing so I took the plunge. Although I have not received the gimmick yet, Vanishing sent me the link to the instructions. Most people probably know what the gimmick is, but what you get and the different handlings Josh provides are excellent. Additionally, he offers handlings by a number of different people that are diverse and interesting. Personally, I think it is a fabulous effect. Of course, I will not know how it plays until I perform it but I do not regret it yet. My guess is that after it is out for a while people will come up with a bunch of new ideas for it. Josh has done a really nice job.

Here's just one of the routines taught on the Blankrupt project. This is the version I would do the most often in the restaurant. As you can see, all the heat is on the card.

I think because of the gimmick you will be able to show/flash both sides of the card before the transformation leaving the impression to the spectators that your hand was empty before the trick. This is a good selling point, IMO. This will give you time to do the dirty work with their actual card. I can see how the heat will initially be on the Omni-card first. A nice effect!

Exactly! The way the gimmick was designed, was so you can show your hands "empty". Even if you add the chip sticker, you are still able to cleanly show the front and the back of the card at any point during the routine. Thanks for the kind words!
