Brett sure is coming across as a ‘big C’ in his posts, but it doesn’t stand for creator.

As a society, we tend to overvalue inventors and undervalue innovators: those who make inventions more useful by making ideas better. Or, worse, we just pretend the innovator was the inventor (see: Edison, Thomas who mostly built off the ideas of others, but actually made stuff work in the real world). Both Brett and Drew have, at times, both invented and innovated -- often making existing concepts better. Brett has done so with the high quality production of his products and, more recently, bringing in other concepts that build much further upon such ideas. Drew has innovated *tremendously* by making a whole bunch of concepts and methods in and around mentalism and making them *so much* more powerful through creative thinking/routining/etc. To argue that one is more important or better than another is ridiculous. Personally (and, yes, this is just for me that I'm talking about), Drew's work has contributed significantly to my own thinking and performances. I am much better thanks to Drew's incredible creative thinking.
This all seems to come down to Brett being upset that Drew didn't buy his latest product fast enough, at which point he seemed to assign a variety of motives and personality types to Drew that seems wholly unfair. Brett makes good products and has a good reputation, but this entire incident seems uncalled for and entirely unbecoming. Drew has contributed massively to the art, even in just the short time that he's been releasing stuff, and I don't care who capitalizes which letters. I think Brett owes Drew (and the wider community) an apology for overreacting. |

Brett might suffer from a feeling of superiority or exaggerated self-importance, often accompanied by excessive aggressiveness, arrogance, etc. which are compensation for feelings of inferiority.

Looks like a salesman trying to sell their product and then going in a huff.
Shame. |

I've been contacted by many people (both on and off the Café) who have experienced almost identical interactions with Brett... sadly, it seems this behavior is status quo for him.
It's unfortunate that this thread has digressed - but I also feel it's important to bring awareness to poor conduct within the community. There's no need for all of us to agree on everything (differing opinions are beneficial even) but civility should always prevail. I wish no ill-will towards Brett. Hopefully he'll have a change of heart one day and treat others with the respect he so vehemently demands from himself. Let's move on now Best wishes, Drew

Just want to add a note here that this is on a very short list of lectures of hard hitting, practical material that any level of performer will find value in.
But that is not what I wanted to comment. I purchased Drew's Omni book test and have been using it around a year now in every show I've done. If you are at all interested in using books in your act, this is the best book test system I've come across. Dozens of features and reveals packed into the system that allows you to do all the normal "standard' book test effects with the individual books. However, the real value here is the care and thought put into the system of using the books together. You get only a small taste of what this set is capable of in thelecture, however, the variability and flexibility this set provides, while using standard titles that most have read before, is exceptional. I've owned many book tests ranging from the cheapest to the most expensive (some of which not even publically sold) and for the value you receive and what you are able to achieve, there is no better book test. Drew didn't ask me to post anything and while I really hope this stays a bit more undergrown for my own selfish uses, I just had to share that after many hours of real-world use, this is a winner that has actually changed the structure of my show for the better. I don't know how many sets were/are available as I think it might be a limited release, but shoot Drew a message here or on facebook and I'm sure he can help you out. Stay well everyone. We will get through this time together. |

Just to add to those comments about the book test, the books themselves are superbly produced and look exactly like the genuine articles. This is where many book tests fail at the final hurdle.

Drew's Penguin Live Act remains one of the best stage Mentalism acts on the Penguin site. Not least because it's one of a handful of Mentalism performances that actually looks properly rehearsed.

Eli - I sincerely appreciate the generous words about the lecture and Omni-test! Anything I share with the community is a labor of love, so it's always gratifying to hear when someone finds such value in various projects.
Mark - That's very kind of you to say! And I agree with you, it's always interesting to see the wonky formatting or other tell-tale signs that some books aren't quite "normal." Martin - Your to-the-point review of the lecture made my day! I'll take it! Thank you Regarding Omni-test: Yes, I still have sets available - it is limited to 175 sets though (that's a FIRM limit). I know its an investment so don't feel shy about reaching out and I'll provide all of the information that I can to help you know if its the right product for your show. Hope everyone is staying happy, healthy and fulfilled! Best wishes, Drew
