For the first time in 15 years Alan Parsons is releasing an album. It is called "The Secret." The cover features a formally dressed man wearing a top hat and holding a fan of cards while walking on a pathway made of wands. This is not the first time that Mr. Parsons has made magic references in his work. I guess he must be a magic fan.
Are there any other non-magician magic fans that you know of that express that love in the media somehow?

That's excellent news Cliffg37! 15 years is a long wait. Alan Parsons is for sure a magic fan. I believe he even wrote some instruction sheets for Tenyo in the past.
Johnny Carson was a participant & frequently booked magic on his Tonight Show. Great talents like Michael Ammar, etc. |

I spoke with Alan very briefly after a recent concert. He is indeed a big fan of magic and has aided in the writing of the English versions of some Tenyo directions.
The theme of the new album is “magic”. The band really hits the classic groove in the live show, so I’m hoping a more official tour will follow the release of the album. |

Btw Tom, If you hear that Alan is coming to southern California, please let me know. It is a show I would want to see.
Do you know if Dave Patton is still with him? Thanks.

There were no original band members with him on tour. It appears Paton is putting out remakes of classic Alan Parsons Project tunes on his own. If a tour supporting the album is announced, I will give you a shout. I have seen him twice in about a year now. The first time he played the entire I Robot album. That was amazing!

I love the "I Robot" album. I was 16 when it came out, and it was my first experience with APP. In college I had friends who accused them of using "B" list singers, but I disagree. I felt Alan had a knack for picking just the right vocalists for the job. Some told me that the I Robot album was perfect for "altered states" experiences. I can't really comment on that, but I will say it is either the best choice or the worst choice for playing while having a conversation about extra terrestrial life.

By “B list” did they mean people they never heard of? Certainly the musical landscape of that time was littered with popular successful singers who didn’t have “A list” chops.
Certainly there are points in the album where the story is being told by the common man, and a more common man voice was probably used for specific reason. I would have simply looked at them and said, “Interesting, so you are implying that the guy who engineered Dark Side Of The Moon all of a sudden stopped paying attention to every tiny little detail?” |

I do not think that I know anybody that does not like Our Magic.
If there is a single truth about Magic, it is that nothing on earth so efficiently evades it.

I was having to defend APP against the likes of progressive rock giants such as Led Zeppelin. Today I realize that the comparison is neither fair nor should it ever be made. There is room for all tastes. As for Dark Side of the Moon, this was the behind the scenes birth of the true genius that Alan is. That album was nothing short of sheer brilliance. He managed to bring every right element together to form as close to perfection as a human can get. Very sad when he and Eric stopped collaborating. More sad when Eric passed on.

Alan does a moving one song tribute to Eric which involves the entire audience.

He's also very good to concentrate on if you feel the telepaths are trying to read your mind!
http://ps238.nodwick.com/comic/12062010/ I would like to point out that the "President" is not actually an eight year old child. He's tied into the real President's mental flashback.

Tom, what is your opinion of the APP Sicilian Defence album?

I stopped buying the new stuff after Vulture Culture, so I don’t know about the albums after that.

Holy Spit!
Just got the new aforementioned Alan Parsons album, The Secret. The man is in his 70's and still has it. What a great album. I also think it is the first album of his that has his photo on it. This album is indeed about "magic" and bless the man. He is a musical genius. I described the cover in my O.P. The back cover features the same top-hatted fellow, but he has turned around and it is Alan himself.
