The American Mathematical Society will be releasing a new book next month that may be of interest to some.
https://bookstore.ams.org/mbk-122 Have any of you gotten a sneak peek? Hope it's not just a rehash of familiar material. |

The author of "The Math Behind the Magic" Ehrhard Behrends has published a few popular books about recreational mathematics in German language.
Among those books, there are two about maths and magic. From the table of contents given in the AMS store, it looks like the book is a translation of the first book "Der mathaematische Zauberstab" (https://amzn.to/2GQchCG). This book is well written, but it is a book rather for the general public - not for magicians. For those who are already interested into mathematical principles in magic it is unlikely that they will find any new information. Also, only very few references to other sources are included into the book. The topics include (among others): 1089 force, matrix force, milk shuffle and down-under shuffle analysis, Gilbreath, palindromic (and other) stacks, coding a card by a sequence of other cards, de Brujin sequences, Kruskal count, non-transitive games. The other book "Mathematik und Zaubern" (https://amzn.to/2IUok5h) has a similar content but is written for students of mathematics. It includes proofs which require some knowledge of topics such as group theory. |

Erhard Behrens was the president of the Committee for Raising Public Awareness of the European Mathematical Society, so he is a recognized authority ni disseminating Maths. It is sure than the book contains a new vision and improvements of classical math Magic.
