Just received an promotional Email from Trick Supply dot com. They list a new product called Magic Pot by JL Magic from Korea. It sounds like the Magic Kettle, but list price is $450.00. Kind of steep for a colored water routine, when Mak-Magic Kettle is a fraction of JL asking price.
No mention of actual flavored drinks, alcholic or non-alcholic. Here is the description: Quote:
Magic Pot is a professional version of Any Drink Called For. Comes complete with everything you need to get started performing right out of the case. EVERYTHING has been included. It comes in a professional road case and will last you a lifetime! Notice all the questionable statements: You ask an audience member to name any drink. Does that mean any color, or an actual flavor of drink? If the demo is true, then this is all false statements, or it is a translation problem when converting to English. No mention if Essences are provided either. Not even a mention if this pot is made of real silver, to justify the price, if it not actually an "Any Drink Called for, as we in the magic community understand it to be, as Hoffmann's Think A Drink effect. |

As you so often suggest, I would call them. Wolfgang is respected and has always been fair...the only dealer I have actually sent a "thank you" card to for his exceptional service. I am wondering if there is a system similar to the mechanical systems used in other higher priced models (i.e, Nick Wenger, etc.) Can't say too much in this open forum.

Bill, the exact same trick is available from Hocus Pocus (under the correct name Magic Port - not Magic Pot as listed on Trick Supply). HPs advertisement makes no such claims. They state only that "The performer takes each glass and magically pours a different color liquid into each glass making a colorful and impressive display. " Which confirms your suspicions that it is just like the Magic Kettle. In fact, Hocus Pocus have a photograph of the contents of the case, and you can clearly see the containers containing essence, so you're right again. It does look to be a beautifully made kit though, with all the glasses and stand etc, so I guess you are getting value for money. I have Steinmeyer's Hospitality (made by David Charvet) which costs around $100 more and allows you to hand out the drinks for consumption. I think this is a far superior effect for not much more money.

I know how many magicians are interested in this effect, and the price shocked me a bit, for a Magic Tea Pot. Going to Hocus Pocus Magic, I do not see any essences, but only the stuff you buy at the grocery store in the baking section. That brings up another question, as it states the glasses are empty, and we all know that cannot be true to pour colored water. For anyone interested in this effect, I hope I have given you some questions to consider before making a purchase of this high dollar amount. I can see where, if the table, case, glass stand are all included, then they would ask this kind of price for the props. |

In the video, the water pouring from the spout is clear. I think that's all there is to know.
