Exactly same happened to me. Either an error, but probably just sold out that quickly.

I would imagine a temporary hold would go on the item once it’s in the cart. I hate it for anyone who missed it. It was a nice surprise to get the heads up email this morning though.

I understand your frustration. However, putting an item in the cart does not decrement the stock. This is how almost every on-line store works.

I guess you have never used TicketSwap for example when there are hundreds of people looking for one ticket and then one ticket gets released... And in this case we knew what time the new copies would be released, which is not the case on TicketSwap where you just get an alert.

They were pretty clear the stock was extremely limited.

I would guess they have just one developer if much. If not, Michal should be working on everything. So this comparison is not fair. And, to be honest, totally naive. |

Most online shopping systems do not reserve stock until it's paid for. Given that I'm betting many people were waiting for this to drop (myself included) it was more or less a lottery as to who actually was able to buy them. The system they're working with isn't set up for a rapid-fire demand like that.
I understand it's frustrating but it's nothing personal. Just how the systems work.

I'm really not sure what you mean by "lead prospective buyers"... they did come up for sale and they did get sold to new buyers... I understand you're frustrated but it's basically supply and demand and there just seems to have been a LOT of demand. Besides the email I received very clearly said that the books would sell out within minutes.

Sure, what I wrote clearly doesn't make sense then.

As I said in my previous post - everyone knew when they would drop, and there were probably at least 100 people. Everyone hit the server "within seconds" - and that's assuming your clock is synced with the one MindFX was using, and you got the email at the same time as everyone else (which is very unlikely). There's every chance they were actually sold out before you even clicked the link but the inventory system hadn't had time to catch up yet.
It happens. No big deal.

I've had similar things happen, and I've had many customers have similar things happen. Any high-demand item with low stock risks it.

However, I haven't come across a similar situation in which there is a high demand that won't be met and that the item in question apparently sells out within half a minute and I miss out on it the very same moment PayPal redirects me to the item's website upon hitting the pay-now button. Things are as they are. I'm sure I'll never get what happened tonight, after (from my point of view) I did everything I could. Which was not enough. Such is life, I guess, though I'd be more than happy to support Timon's hands-down excellent work. |
