Curious about what in that review which was very thorough scares people away??? “Have to be confident with a deck of cards?” “Have to rehearse it?” “Have to put your big trousers on?” “Needs a script?” “What you get is versatile and can be used with other routines?”

Agree with Michael. Nice utility item that seems to make a lot of routines cleaner. Went back and watched him teach it in his Penguin lecture. Looks super easy to do.

Seems like something they should be doing... perhaps it has something to do with permissions or privacy? Anyways, good luck! I'm sure Steve will take care of that if he sees your comment.

I bought this and I am only doing mentalism. I am confident that I could make a very good mentalism routine out of it that doesn’t scream magic.

I have only watched this once from a vanishing inc email.
Josh is a great story teller and performer that is without a doubt, I think he is fantastic. The method (which I know is irrelevant to a lay audience) couldn’t be more obvious to me though (on just one viewing). That doesn’t make it bad but there is literally nothing new here method wise at all. If you don’t know the method that’s probably irrelevant but I can tell you the amount of false cuts Josh does in the demo is ridiculous imho and it’s so obvious (to many) what’s on the deck the girl shuffles. Even more of a give away is before she does the final cut and inadvertently has them face up. Fair play for being so transparent and keeping it in but all you are buying here is the script imho. Can I repeat the effect without purchasing? Yes it’s so so easy. Can I learn the script? Very easily. Will I ever have a crowd like Josh has when performing, that will also be so quiet and engaging and can I basically be Josh? Categorically the answer is no, no and no. That last paragraph sums up while 90% of people will never perform this in the real world and get anything out of it. That’s my truly honest gut opinion. Now I Steve Faulkner has reviewed this so I will check that out next as I am a massive fan of his opinions. I truly hope I am wrong on my first viewing Gaz 😊 |

Although it's matching mates rather than matching cards, Caleb Wiles' "26!" is done with a regular deck and looks to the lay audience like a very similar effect.
It's in his High Spots book, Rematch DVD, his recent Penguin Live lecture, and currently on sale as a $6 download at Vanishing Inc. |

Although Josh never explicitly tells you not to use it, he doesn't go over one word of it in the hour-long instructional video (or even include a video) and he points out that it's the true story of his parents and you should find patter that works for you. So while it may not be unethical to use the same script, it's certainly not Josh's hope. In addition to the method and instruction, you're purchasing physical gimmicks that it would be virtually impossible to make yourself without quite a bit of skill. In other words, it would absolutely not be "so so easy" to "repeat the effect without purchasing" unless you use a completely different (and likely more difficult) method. As for the crowd, I'm not sure what that has to do with anything. If you're not performing an in environment in which your audience will pay attention to you, perhaps this isn't the best effect. Or perhaps a magic show is not a good fit at all. |

That’s what I said about the audience in a real world working environment, this is a parlour effect imo (nothing wrong in that if you barely perform magic).
Like I said I have only viewed it once and I can 100% replicate it. As a one off piece I use Josh’s I dream of mind reading script word for word literally (it’s that engaging for a one off parlour piece). Josh has absolutely no problem with that all, that I can assure you Gaz 😊 ps The latter effect I mention is a brilliant effect imo but it’s a one off parlour type effect, so like I said 90% of the time most of us don’t do. If we are being really honest like I always am from my perspective 😊 |

It's fundamentally a self-explanatory, visual effect -- cards match. You don't have to use a story at all, but if you do Josh suggests it not be about his parents. He said that in the live launch event this afternoon, and he suggested it in the instructional video. That doesn't mean you can't use it or that he would be upset if you did, just that he hopes you won't. If you can replicate the effect in a way that works better for you, go for it. |

I said I used it word for word on his other effect, and let’s face it who would talk about his parents on this one?
Only him unless you are bonkers . You would reframe it around your own family if you were following his script. I don’t want to replicate this effect (just because I can) as I have imo stronger one off presentations anyway. Like I say I seldom use them but when I do they hit very hard. Exactly like this will do for some I’m sure Gaz 😊 |

Thanks Joe I’m glad to be wrong.
So the script is hard to learn? I don’t think so. The other 2, well one is a fact ie I can’t actually be Josh. Maybe I will get a crowd like Josh one day but highly unlikely as I don’t perform in quiet parlour environments. Best wishes Gaz 😊 |
