Anybody know where I can learn the Vernon Wand Spin?
Curtis Kam uses it to great effect on his first Palms of Steel video (awesome stuff, Curtis!), but does not go into the mechanics of the sleight itself.

Now here’s the rub, does anybody know of a Wand Spin resource that’s free on the web? I don't mean to sound cheap, I've just spent too much $$$ on magic lately and would rather not shell out more right now to learn one sleight.

The Ammar book tries to teach the thing.

There is a site on pen spinning tricks that teaches the thing too. Google 'biro pen spin'.

The ball vanish was in the Vernon Book of Magic, and is a Silent Mora sleight.

It's explained on the Stevens Cups and Balls Video by Ammar. You can get it from Stevens Magic.

The pen spins can be learned from http://www.pentrix.com

I haven't browsed it long enough to see if the exact spin is in there, but between that and drumstick spinning, you should have enough to get started.

Wait til you do have the money and get the Ammar Cups and Balls DVD #2. Ammar's book is good to but to see the timing, I think a DVD is best.

I would also like to point out that

If you buy the Mercury wand it comes with a card that shows, using photos, how to do the Vernon Wand Spin, The Drummers Spin and the Through the Fist Vanish.

Frank Starsini is right. The Ammar’s DVD #2 is far better with the wand spin than any text.

The “teach In” Stevens tape is good but not easy to see and a far cry from the “slow motion” of the DVD.

Hey! I second Larry Barnowsky about the teach in series from Stevens It is a pretty good dvd I think for a beginner like me. Ammar takes the sleight apart pretty good but I cannot compare as Mr. wellington because I don't own the Ammar tape,

Oh well Hope you learn it fast!!

I agree that the Mike Ammaer 'The Complete Cups and Balls Video' number 2 is the best source for learning both this and other wand spins, as well as cups and balls itself.

It's also worth getting the book which accompanies the videos.

I think these are 'must have' items for anyone who either wishes to learn cups and balls or simply enjoys the effect.

Brian.

Credit where credit’s due … it’s the Vernon / Silent Mora Wand Spin.

Exceptional move; and the Ammar DVD is the best learning source.

I think the best place to learn the spin is on the Revelations tapes. You can see/hear Ammar and Vernon talking about the spin.

None of these is really worth beans. It's better to learn it from someone who knows how to do it.

I have gone through the Ammar Videos, the Revelations Videos, the Vernon book and the Ammar book. Each one had one or more part that was left out. I finally learned it from a friend of mine who learned it directly from Ammar.

Bill,

You hit the nail on the head. I have the Ammar books and videos and could not get the knack down until I saw a friend do it.

Find a good drummer and hang out with him. Why do the same spin as all the other magicians in the herd?

Bill...I would love to learn it from you...when is the next time you are going to be in NC?

I have been doing the vernon spin thing, without the vanish for years, but I have always spun the item clockwise, not counter clockwise. Can it work this way? Does anyone do it this way?

One other point about the Ammar DVD, you can watch him vanish a large billiard ball using the same spin.

COOL!!!!

It was done on the DVD as just an eye-catcher but hey!
It got me thinking!

I've seen him do it live from around 15 feet and it is jaw dropping. Doesn't flash a thing.

I worked on the wand spin for years. Terry Vecky did it and I have seen others do it. But it looked like a move.

Then I saw Dai Vernon do it and it was real magic when he did it. I saw him vanis a large read load ball 5 inches from my face... The ball vanished.

It was not a magic move when I saw Vernon do it it was magic...

For me I decided not to do the move after seeing the master do it. My Father had his rope tie, Don Alan Did the big nut and Vernon did his wand spin...

That was a real magic moment!

I certainly wouldn't say the Ammar video isn't worth beans.
That's taking it a bit far. It's an excellent source and it's where I learned it.
