There are three bellropes - A, B and C - hanging inside a tower.
Each bellrope hangs vertically between its bell and the floor - a distance of 12 metres. The bellropes are spaced 3 metres apart. Bellrope A is on the left, bellrope B is in the middle and bellrope C is on the right. A huge monkey is sitting on the floor. The monkey can climb each bellrope at 1 metre per second, and descend each bellrope at 2 metres per second. The monkey can walk across the floor at 3 metres per second. Assuming that the monkey starts at the foot of bellrope A, how long would it take him to ring all three bells and return to his starting position? (Don't provide the maths/explanation. Just write the answer... if you can work it out).

A bit less than 4 seconds (depending how long his arms are).

58 seconds, assuming he needs to climb the ropes (I'm not familiar with bell towers, I could be victim of some trick wording here...).
Not needing to climb, I'm going to say 4 seconds travel plus 'ring time'. |

66 seconds.
If it was easy, everybody would do it, and if everybody did it, it wouldn't be magic.

So what's the answer, TopHat? 18 seconds for each rope = 54 seconds + 12 seconds on the ground between the ropes = 66 seconds. Unless I'm totally off the mark and he doesn't have to climb the entire rope because of his enormous arms.

He doesn't have to climb the ropes to ring the bells; if he swings the bellrope, the bell will ring.

Boy do I feel stupid. This whole post reminds me of the joke of the bell ringer, who, instead of pulling on the bell ropes, would climb the rafters, take a running leap, and dive head first into the bell to ring it. One day he slipped and fell to his death. People came along to see what happened and one remarked "Who is he?" A stranger replied, "I don't know, but his face sure rings a bell."

It could take a while... the monkey might not like loud noises.
...to all the coins I've dropped here

I'd say 6 seconds, he doesn't have to climb the ropes.

I wondered if anyone would fall for it. Anyway, as they say..."you do the math"...
