Just getting around to cracking the cover on this 1911 classic. Oh my, what a gold mine of thoughts on what one might think of as the philosophy and theory of the art of magic.

The writing style is a bit verbose by modern standards, but if you're willing to spend some time with it there are some gems in here.

Not sure how long it has been, but it's now publicly available online here - https://archive.org/details/ourmagicartinmag00mask/page/n3 .

Recommended.

My favorite part about that book is that so much of what they discuss as being issues with the magic world at that time, would be perfectly normal to see discussed on these very forums.

What a great book. I've been studying it for a while. I think every magician should read it.

HeronsHorse is 100% correct. It's a book I've owned since forever and the one book I will never part with.

How lucky you are to own it!
I only have the pdf that I downloaded from archive.org. It still is a copy of the book but, well, I just prefer hard copy books for some reason. I like the feel of them in my hand, and the portability is unmatched! Sure, you can put a pdf on most any device but that device still needs to be plugged in at some point in time..!
Give me a proper book any day.

I agree with everyone's comments above!

"Our Magic" should be "REQUIRED READING" for every magician, BEFORE he is allowed to perform in public.

Required reading yes, but so far from sufficient !

What do you mean?
It is sufficient for what it is. I have no idea what you are trying to say.

I mean that reading that awesome book is required for every magician (regularly through your life) but it must be completed by a lot of other books to become an accomplished artist. Just my opinion Heronshorse !

I know there is some very talented performers who don’t need to read anything because they intuitively understand most things. But they are far between.

Again, for sure you will not lose your time in reading that book. And during each new reading you will discover new things or see things in a new way, which some say it is the main feature of classic books.
