I’ve been rereading the book and came across the which hand effect today. It’s very clever and I really like what he did with his handling.

Holy cow! I don’t know how I overlooked Wigging the Baldpate through my first read-throughs of this book but that’s why we reread, isn’t it? The new discoveries! I’ve always loved the target number conceit but this really kicks it up a notch! Just brilliant thinking!

Has anyone tried The Lazy Mentalist (Barrie’s chair test)? It sure reads pretty. Just wondering how it played for you in action.

Best quote of the book: “When it is my time to leave this world, I may say I’m sorry I spent so much time in the office. I will never say I’m sorry I spent so much time with magic.”-Barrie
What a gift he left us. On to Act II

I've found that any re-reading of a decent book always throws up some new stuff. And that I guess is a part of the pleasure of book reading.

I performed The Lazy Magician for high school students (I was a hs teacher then) at a school talent show for the graduating class of seniors. I used a safe sex theme. It went over very well. My three messages were: 1. Seniors Rule! 2. My brain is more powerful every day! 3. Use a condom! Yes, that's how customizable this effect is.

I worked with Barrie on a TV special. I ended up calling him The Mr. Rogers Of Mentalism. He was one of the nicest guys on the planet. On top of that, he had a great creative mind. His books are filled with gold. I really miss that guy. He was one of the best of the best.

I truly cannot believe that this was released twenty years ago. I only had the pleasure of meeting him once, but all of the comments about him certainly seem well deserved. He truly was a gentleman and a scholar.
