I'm getting ready to send out my Library Flyers for 2020. I'm thinking around September first. Any suggestions on the optimal time for sending Library promos?

Perhaps if I rephrased that question: When is the best time to send Library Promo Material.

Hi Michael,
Im not sure how it works where you are but in Jan/Feb the libraries in my area are given their budget for the next 12 months so they can start booking perfomers. Id recomend speaking to your local librarian and seeing if they will let slip what time of year they get their budget. In my area we're lucky enough to have a performers showcase for libraries, so they can come and see us do a quick 5 minutes and then book us if they'd like. |

I usually attend but plan to simply place an ad in their directory this time. For the 2019 schedule, I mailed in January of 2019. I received some requests to send earlier, since some library directors are booking much earlier. I even booked a 2020 gig at one library as a result of one of the directors wanting earlier promo material. I can only remember two times that clients cited the showcase as the source of their decision to book. The majority I get are from direct mail campaigns. I'm thinking that you may be on to something with the budgets being set in January or February. I will have to ask one of my director friends. Since I just received the invite for this fall's showcase today, I'm guessing that maybe my thoughts on mailing in September might be close to optimal. I will check budget dates, though, and let you know what I find out. Again, thanks for the much appreciated help. |

So, it looks like the budget decisions aren't, necessarily tied to the booking schedules - at least in Oklahoma. I'm still on schedule for mailing mine on September 01. I just recently decided to skip the Performer's Showcase performance stage and simply submit my flyer for their printed and online Directory. Anyway, that's what I managed to learn since our last communication, Billy. Hope this helps someone. |

You should really be asking this in Tricky Business which is the forum for business. I think you would get more of the answers you are seeking. One of my coaching students who often shares there could possibly tell you more as we just booked 70 libraries in a 12-week tour that has just ended. There is so much more to this than many understand.
