I bring a few props, rope and a ring, deck of cards, doublecross, and a balloon. That's pretty much the full set, but I also have coins, rubberbands, and a few gimmicked dollars to do more if they really want. And if they're loving it, I always have a bag close by with more stuff that's not on my person weighing me down.

- Deck ready for my version of Be Honest What's in Jacket Right Pocket
- 4 aces in a packet wallet for Dr Daley's Last Trick in Left Jacket Pocket - Stand up Monte in Front Jacket pocket - Sponge Bunnies in the front trousers pockets - wand in the left back trousers pocket That's it for 4 hours in the restaurant. Same tricks, diferent spectators. Sometimes if it's a big table I perform Fiber Optics and I also switch the sponge bunnies for sponge balls during the night.
My version of Eddie fetcher "Be Honest What's it?" it's available at Penguin Magic

I'll chime in since this is still an active thread.
Jacket is worn. I'll list is with the location on the jacket. Top Breast Outer Pocket - Doubles of Dupes for Torn and Restored Transpo Belt/Hip - Pro Carrier - Carries Business Cards, 2 Decks, One Regular, One Invisible (This is my out) Left Inner Breast Pocket - Card to Envelope/Wallet, George Kearney's (which I believe is the best AND stylish wallet out there), Also with Sharpie Clipped. Wallet is Filled with Volition, the Card Version of the Insurance Policy, And Extreme Burn 2.0. I really love this in my wallet, it's a complete set inside of 1 wallet. Left Outer Pocket - Omni Deck Right Outer Pocket - Kept Empty for Torn and Restored Transpo Ditch. Another user mentioned about having a bag that they bring for resets. I also bring a small case. I carry extra decks, my mini chop cup with loads, and Dupes Galore. Also in there is either the Omni Deck or Phantom Deck. Extra Sharpies. As far as effects. I separate them into sets, though if I really like a group and am really connecting, I'll jazz magic with them on the fly. Set One Arc d Triomphe Torn and Restored Transpo ACR to Omni Deck Set Two Business Card Volition Extreme Burn 2.0 L&L ACR to Card in Envelope/Wallet Jazz Tricks if I'm connecting with the group on an instant friend level Be Honest What Is It Las Vegas Leaper Chop Cup Homing Card to 51 Cards to Pocket Triad Coins Some will say that this is very Card Heavy. But honestly, the cards don't matter as much as you entertaining. If they're having fun, you're having fun, you could do whatever you wanted and they'll love you. These routines I have been doing for years, so I feel very comfortable with them and I believe for the time being, this is all I need to make my money! Hope this helps or gives you ideas. Whatever you use, make sure the reset is instant, at the very least, quick! |

For Close-up/mingling:
- Pack of normal cards (Waddingtons or Piatnik Bridge size). - Second (duplicate) pack for Joe Riding's FRED effect. - Sponge balls. - I'll Start Again paddle. - 4 Jumbo Cards (for Joe Riding's Irish 3 Card Trick). I never carry or use a close-up mat. Everything I do is either visual or in their hands. I never use a case either (for close up) - the above fits in suit pockets without looking 'bulked'. In the boot of the car, I have a case with the following, for Stand-up/Cabaret: - Road Sign - Rope - for Cut & Restored routine - Orange and envelopes (for note in orange) - Wallet for repeat card to wallet - Chop Cup Also, I carry an adjustable microphone clip - this is more important than the tricks! I've learnt through the years it's always worth having this case as a back-up. You sometimes just don't know the working conditions you'll be expected to work; or if you have to cover for another act/perform another set, etc. Routines for all of the above effects are Joe Riding's. I've been doing the same stuff since 1981!

I usually just carry a few coins and a sharpie. Personally, that's sufficient for me.

On Dec 22, 2019, Merc Man wrote: The advice MercMan shares regarding the case of extra effects is seldom, if ever mentioned. It's obvious he is an experienced worker. I learned my lesson the hard way when years ago a client who booked me for close-up walk around approached me and told me that the stage would be ready shortly. I asked what the stage was for and he replied that I was to do a stand-up show for the entire group. Even though it was not stated in the contract, I hap-hazzardly threw together some bits and pieces of what I had with me along with a couple of non-prop routines that incorporate audience participation. Thankfully it was an outdoor event on a very hot and humid day. I got a way with about a twenty minute show before the audience all started to show signs of wanting to get to some shade. My little show basically sucked, but as MercMan has wisely advised, I ALWAYS have a parlor type show ready at every gig I attend... |

I bring my small case with me, just in case I need to do something on a larger scale. Inside of the case I have a few tricks that I can do for a larger crowd, extra business cards, medicine kit, back ups for my strolling tricks, small hand sanitizer, and a bag of small bits and bobs. I ask the host for a place to store it that is out of the way.
I carry a deck of cards, two sharpies, coins, wallet, MSP deck, packs of floss, and business cards. |

However, depending on the size of the room, I may only use 3 tricks throughout the evening. The larger the room, the less needed. However, when using a small number of tricks, you really do want tricks that reset in an instant, eg. Invisible deck or Chop Cup! |

To save pockets, I use the effect "Day One" by Scott Cram.
A mentalism effect which gives the day of any date called for. eg what day was 4th August 1488? Plus - a good magic wallet which will provide peeks, switches, predictions etc. |

I usually open with the rubber bands on my wrist, straight into their hands, in a 3 phase.
They're gonna wanna see some more, so I snort my rubber bands & go into my left outside jacket pocket for a standard deck; set up for a 3cm, 2cm on the top of the deck, & Chicago Opener on the face. Then I'm ready to go into whatever sequence of routines I feel like, usually 3cm, "I'll make it easier, we'll use 2" into a 2cm, "ok fine let's just pick one then" into Chicago, &/or an acr or something. That's my go to opening straight into first set routine if I have the time to play. Left inside jacket pocket has Ninja rings, which is great to draw in a larger close up audience Right inside jacket pocket is my invisible deck for outs & finales. Right outside jacket pocket are for stickers & name cards. Everything fits on my jacket, unless I have to do stage stuff. |

I haven't table-hopped in a long time, but I was lucky enough o have a regular gig at a ballroom magic show & buffet dinner, so I had a lot of opportunity to experiment
On several occasions, I worked the entire event with memorized deck (Aronson stack) and few false shuffles - that alone provided enough variety to move from table to table without rushing or repeating too soon. I'd be false-shuffling between tables so my purpose was clear and the cards seemed legitimately mixed (because I was being so off-handed about it) It's easy to carry very little on you and work indefinitely. I only point this out because I did go through a phase of carrying plenty of stuff around, "just in case." Having this gig gave me the freedom to try a minimalist approach, and it worked! Better yet, it resulted in smoother performances because I never had to decide "what next?" |
