I have been practicing with the royal road and was wondering if it would be good to just focus on the techniques involving cards or would it good to dabble in non card sleights as well?

I like the cards so far, thanks for helping me remember that's a question I should keep asking myself.
I might of answered my own question.

I was thinking to ask because I wasn't sure if there was like general way to practice sleight of hand or if it overlaps with what can be done with cards

What is your "end game"? Is it just to practice sleights or are you planning to entertain with cards
as well as other forms of the art? Coin magic, ropes, sponge balls, rubberbands. It is satisfying on a personal level to be proficient in many forms. It depends on where YOU want to go.
If you can't help worrying, remember worrying can't help you!

Goodpoint, I guess I could say I'm experimenting trying to discover what I would like to perform with.

So far I only experienced doing some rope and card tricks.

Sleights do impress me though and how they are done behind the curtain amazes me further.

So maybe my endgame is to dabble further into sleight heavy trickery.

Jesse... check out Harry’s book... The Magic Book.

Good card stuff as well as other good closeup sleight of hand based magic... it would be a great introduction for you to other than card based magic. It is a favorite book of mine.

Take care,
Bruce

Harry has a bunch of great books that will serve you well, I personally do recommend branching out and learning as much of the different areas of magic as you can as they will all teach and reinforce ideas which improve the others. Any practice with sleights tends to improve dexterity, and some of that dexterity will transfer to other things. You will still have to practice each skill but they will come easier if you have experience with others.

@ Ace

That makes sense.
I am a little familiar with certain skills affecting multiple aspects of visual art, glad to see it works that way with magic as well.

@ Dick

It definitely seems so since you are recommending it along with Bruce and Ace, Glad to see the endorsements I'll make sure to go over his writing carefully when I get it.

@ Harry

Good to know!
Thank you very much!
