I think Arthur has it but if it isn't Oppenheimer I'm guessing Edward Teller.

And it's Arthur for the win -- J. Robert Oppenheimer it is!
For a supernatural chiller mixing magic (prestidigitation, legerdemain) with Magic (occultism, mysticism), check out my novel MAGIC: AN OCCULT THRILLER at http://www.amazon.com/Magic-Occult-Thriller-Reed-Hall/dp/1453874836

Cliff had Oppenheimer as a personality some time ago, and I believe I got the answer pretty early on because I’m interested in WWII and Cold War espionage and counter-espionage.

Try this one:

I was born and raised in Brooklyn, NY.

I was overweight throughout my childhood and adolescence, which had a profound impact on my body image.

My first jobs included being a tour guide at Rockefeller Center, and a writer/proofreader at an advertising agency.

Early on in my career I appeared in an off-Broadway play with Barbara Streisand.

I worked in various Greenwich Village clubs alongside Bob Dylan, Carly Simon, and Simon and Garfunkel.

My ex-cat was named "Muffin". "Vomit" would be a better name for her. AKA "The Evil Ball of Fur".

My cabaret trio was supposed to play at a rally for Bobby Kennedy, who was running for New York senator in 1964. However, when I showed up wearing a button supporting his Republican opponent, my colleagues fired me.

In 1968 I had a role in the cult drama film The Swimmer, starring Burt Lancaster.

At that time I also had a short-lived syndicated daytime talk show.

Yes! It’s Joan Rivers, born Joan Alexandra Molinsky

These would have been my remaining clues:

I authored 12 best-selling books.

After seven auditions during a period of three years, I finally made my first appearance on The Tonight Show hosted by Johnny Carson.

By the 1970s, I was a prominent fixture on television. During the same decade, I was the opening act for singers Helen Reddy, Robert Goulet, Paul Anka, and Mac Davis on the Las Vegas Strip.

A documentary film about me was acclaimed by critics for providing an honest, behind-the-scenes look at my career -- and at show business in general.

My original surname was Molinsky.

I was friends with comedians Woody Allen and George Carlin.

My own TV show premiered on Fox in 1986 with my spouse as the show’s producer. However, we were both fired in 1987.

Three months later, my spouse committed suicide.

In 1994, my daughter and I hosted the pre-awards show for the Golden Globe Awards. And, beginning in 1995, the Academy Awards pre-awards show as well.

My style was described as heavily self-deprecating and sharply acerbic.

Many critics and journalists consider me a pioneer of women in comedy.

OK, Russo, your turn …

Just so you know, Russo ... this game does not allow googling. Folks are supposed to use their own grey cells.

Finding stuff via Google is an entirely different game!

Guess Who With Three Clues is an awful lot of fun even though I am terrible at it. A wonderful thing you have started here, Arthur. It really is a joy to come here and exercise the old noddle. I look forward to the next challenge.

Thanks so much, Alan! I appreciate that. I love learning interesting facts about the personalities introduced here by Café members.

Here's a new one:

My father was a house painter and immigrant from Minsk, Belarus, and my mother, a garment worker and immigrant from the Russian Empire.

Although officially I was born in 1923, I insisted that I had been born in 1910.

This, and my many other questionable stories, caused the New York Times to write that “much of his life is a broth of conjecture that his fans will no doubt squabble over for years to come."
