In the late '90s through 2001 I worked at PIMCO analyzing mortgage backed securities. Milken was a big name in the bond market at the time, so that's how I knew his name.

As a cancer survivor, Milken has poured a lot of money into cancer research and medical research in general. The 2004 quote is from a Forbes magazine cover story. He has also focused on speeding up the process of getting treatments faster through the approval process.

He almost single-handedly created the junk bond market in the 70’s and 80’s. It was Giuliani who prosecuted him for securities fraud and sent him to jail around 1990.
