Not Jeff.

10. In 1987 I had a small part in a science fiction/horror movie. Two years later, I was in a movie with Clint Eastwood.

Ah! You must mean Michael Des Barres.

Ding! Ding! Ding! Ding! Ding!

I didn't even get to the parts about his small screen rôles.

Or that his mom was a Marquise.

I would love to see those details, Bill. Learning unusual trivia about the various personalities is part of the fun for me. Even after the "puzzle" has been solved!

In 1978 he was on WKRP in Cincinnati as a member of the hoodlum rock band Scum of the Earth. He was the lead singer: Sir Charles Weatherby. He answered to "Dog". As for his musical training, he had none: "Can't read a bloody note!"

His band, Detective, played the music for the final concert scene, with Des Barres singing lead.

He was in "Ghoulies", "Pink Cadillac", "Under Siege", and "Mulholland Drive". Thirty movies in all.

On the small screen he is known primarily as "Murdoc", MacGyver's arch nemesis. He had a variety of other one-off rôles as well, on over 100 television shows.

And he is the 26th Marquis Des Barres, the only child of Marquis Philip and Marquise Irene Des Barres.

(I find it interesting that the pronunciation of his surname is <deh-bar>, and English pronunciation, while his mother was known as Marquise, the French spelling. I would have expected either <day-bar-ray> and Marquise, or else <deh-bar> and Marchioness.)

His bands were Silverhead, Detective, Chequered Past, and The Michael Des Barres Band. He replaced Robert Palmer in Power Station, a Duran Duran side project.

If he weren't a rock star, he'd be known as a "rock star".

Thanks for all that trivia! I remember the band Power Station, and I did see the movie Under Siege.

I also found this tidbit about Des Barres on IMDb:

As the host of Little Steven's Underground Garage on SiriusXM Radio Channel 21, he is heard by more than six million listeners, five days a week.

Here we go with a new one:

My paternal grandparents emigrated from the Russian Empire following the pogroms against Jews of 1905.

My maternal grandparents were Lithuanian Jews who arrived in the United States from northeastern Turkey in 1902.

Our family was part of a small, close-knit Jewish community. My father and his uncles ran a furniture and appliances store.

In my early years I listened to blues, country, and rock ‘n’ roll on the radio.

I formed several rock bands while attending high school. Once, during a talent show, our performance was so loud that the principal cut the microphone.

That same year I enrolled at the University of Minnesota, where I lived at a Jewish-centric fraternity called Sigma Alpha Mu house.

But in 1960 I dropped out of college at the end of my first year.

By then I had lost my enthusiasm for rock ‘n’ roll, writing later that I was interested in music that was “filled with more despair, more sadness, more triumph, more faith in the supernatural, much deeper feelings.”

You got it, Feral! It’s Bob Dylan (born Robert Allen Zimmerman). Further clues:

In 1961, I traveled to New York City to perform in clubs and visit a musical idol.

My first album, released in 1962, sold only 5,000 copies in its first year, just enough to break even.

After legally changing my name, I made my first trip to the United Kingdom. I had been invited by a television director to appear in a drama for BBC Television. At the end of the play, I performed one of my own compositions.

In 1963, during rehearsals for The Ed Sullivan Show, I was told by CBS television's head of program practices that one of my songs was potentially libelous to the John Birch Society. Rather than comply with censorship, I refused to appear.

By this time, Joan Baez and I were prominent in the civil rights movement, singing together at the March on Washington on August 28, 1963.

… I figured someone would have guessed correctly by now, so I didn’t compile any more Dylan clues from later in his life …

The link to Minnesota and the turning away from rock are what tipped me off. It also helped that not too long ago I watched the Scorsese documentary No Direction Home on Dylan's early career.

There's no way I can get to the next name until Tuesday morning. If someone else wants to step up before then, go ahead. Otherwise, I will be back in the morning.
