Not Syd, Cliff, but a good guess.

I was arrested for drug possession in 1967, and again in 1968. Because I was on probation at the time, I faced a long jail sentence if found guilty. Luckily the judge had sympathy and fined me instead of sending me to jail.

Eventually my legal troubles, substance abuse, and estrangement from my bandmates became too much of an obstacle to my active participation in the band. Consequently, I was dismissed in 1969.

You are correct, Foolsnobody: It’s Lewis Brian Hopkin Jones. But what’s the point of solving this when you’re not going to start a new game?

My remaining clues were:

In mid-1969, I was discovered motionless at the bottom of my swimming pool. My girlfriend was convinced I was still alive, insisting I had a pulse. However, I was pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital.

Upon my death, The Who's Pete Townshend and Jim Morrison of the Doors each wrote a poem about me. And Jimi Hendrix dedicated a song to me on U.S. television.

Coincidentally, Hendrix and Morrison both died within the following two years at the same age as me … 27.

Does anybody else want to take a turn?

Here's a new one

I was born in 1952.

My father was a founding member of the Israeli air force
he and my mother would open a lamp store in Florida.

When I was a teen I auditioned for several acting schools
finally being accepted to California institute of the arts.

I worked for a time as a fuller brush salesman while in California.

I would also make several appearances on the gong show.

I got the name of my character from a harmonica brand.

I got my iconic suit from the groundlings founder gary austin.

I tried out for Saturday night live in 1980, but lost out to gilbert gottfried.

I'm out of my depth here, because I don't know any of the names mentioned so far.

But I do know that Hohner makes harmonicas. (I own one myself).

When I didn't get the part on snl I started my own show,
it was a hit and was aired on hbo.

In 1985 I made a movie.

The plot of the movie revolved around my search for
my stolen bicycle.

Arthur: In response to your question, I think a lot of you have several people lined up ready to go with at least the first three clues, so that if you guess someone else's you are ready to jump right in. I don't have anything like that. My memory is poor. And right now I am also struggling with Medicare open enrollment and needing to make decisions regarding my will and end of life directives. I lost my dearest friend to pancreatic cancer in June. I am 75 years old. I'm not smart enough to jump on these things fast enough to please you. Would you rather I didn't guess any more?

This is Pee Wee Herman, Paul Reubens. Interesting that he lost out to Gilbert Gottfried.

Cliff is correct! it is pee wee herman.

P.S Arthur the harmonica brand was " pee wee" it was made in japan after
WW2, it had only 4 holes and 8 reeds, it was about an inch long.
Paul reubens had one as a child.
