No guesses?

8. Sam Elliott, Michael Caine and Timothy Hutton also starred in film adaptations of my novels.

A couple of these guesses were oh so close ... but still no cigar.

Here are my last two clues:

9. I was appointed a Commander of the British Empire (CBE).

10. My memoir is entitled “The Outsider: My Life in Intrigue.”

I'd probably have gotten it much earlier if you'd included Edward Fox as having a starring rôle, or Derek Jacobi in a supporting rôle.

When I was perhaps 13 I read the Reader's Digest condensed version of The Day of the Jackal; it was excellent.

Frederick Forsyth.

I had recently figured out it was Day of the Jackal, but did not know the author's name.

And the answer is ….. (drum roll) …..

Frederick Forsyth, author of Day of the Jackal, The Odessa File, Dogs of War, The Fourth Protocol, and many others.

If you fellas don’t know his work, I highly recommend reading at least the first two books listed (the full versions), and then seeing the original movie adaptations (i.e. not any remakes, if they exist).

Well, Cliffg37 PM’d me and knew the film, but not the author, so S2000magician is the winner! Your turn …

Good one, Arthur!

The Day of the Jackal is an excellent movie! If you haven't seen it, you should. It was, in my opinion, as faithful to the book as it could be, given the limitations on the length of a theatrical release.

I've not read the book. I thought the original move was excellent. The Richard Gere remake (Re boot?) Not so much.

The Odessa File is equally as good a read ... as is the movie adaptation with John Voight.

Saw that movie Arthur, and loved that one too. Actually it was your inclusion of John Voight that got me started thinking in thta direction.

Yes, well done, Landmark! I was concentrating on a male person and didn't have a clue.
