I was born in 1904 in what was then part of Hungary, but is now part of Slovakia.
I died of a stroke after a long Hollywood film acting career in Los Angeles CA in 1964, aged only 59. (Vincent Price read the eulogy at my funeral.) Of Jewish descent, my birth name was László Löwenstein, which bears little resemblance to the stage name by which I was known and am remembered today.

Sorry to end your turn so soon, Karnak, but I know this one: Peter Lorre.

See, looking at the first set of clues, I would have thought "Bela Lugosi."

Wow! That’s awesome, Arthur!
(And yes, Ed, I can see how Lugosi would have also initially come to mind.) Carry on!

Like you, Karnak, I’m a fan of early horror, noir and science fiction films. And of course the associated directors, screenwriters, composers and actors & actresses. In this case, Peter Lorre’s birth name gave it away.
Also, Ed: I thought Bella Lugosi might have already been a mystery guest. But if he hasn’t, he would be a good one! I was born on 25 August 1930. My father was a factory worker and lorry driver, and mother worked as a cleaning woman. In my youth I was referred to as “Tommy.” At the age of 16, I joined the Royal Navy, but was discharged three years later on medical grounds because of a duodenal ulcer. Afterwards, I worked as -- among other things -- a lorry driver, a lifeguard, a laborer, an artist's model, and a coffin polisher. |

My ex-cat was named "Muffin". "Vomit" would be a better name for her. AKA "The Evil Ball of Fur".

Not Reg.
I was a keen footballer, and was offered a contract to play for Manchester United. Although tempted to accept, I realized that a top-class footballer could be over the hill by the age of 30, and I was already 23. Instead, I decided to become an actor. |

My acting career began in smaller theatre and TV productions, during which time I befriended Ian Bannon, Shelley Winters, Michael Caine, and Robert Henderson.

While touring with South Pacific in Edinburgh, I was targeted by six members of one of the most violent gangs in the city. However, I grabbed one of them by the throat, and another by his biceps, and cracked their heads together. From then on I was treated with great respect by the gang and gained a reputation as a "hard man.”

Although I initially secured several movie roles as an extra, I was struggling to make ends meet, and was forced to accept a part-time job as a babysitter for journalist Peter Noble and his actress wife Marianne Stone.

My first wife was an Australian actress who was nominated for an Academy Award. My next wife was a French-Moroccan painter, who stayed with me until my death (despite a well-documented affair I had with a singer).

Besides liking football (soccer), I was also a keen golfer. In fact, Jack Nicklaus said of me: “He was a pretty darn good golfer! We played together several times.”

I worked steadily throughout the 1960s until 2006, when I officially retired from acting (although I briefly returned for voice-over roles in 2012).

My big breakthrough came in 1962, in the role of a secret agent. The success of this role brought me offers from notable directors such as Sidney Lumet, John Huston, and Alfred Hitchcock.
