Landmark’s got it! Charles Bronson. These would have been my other clues:

7. After the war, I joined a theatrical group and shared an apartment with Jack Klugman in NYC.
8. I got married, moved to Hollywood, and began to find small film roles.
9. Changing my last name landed me bigger roles, as a detective, U.S. Marshall, an outlaw, American Indian, etc.
10. My most famous role came when I was 52 years old.
11. I appeared in 15 films with my second wife, Jill Ireland.

Your turn, Landmark!

Yes, I remembered an interview where he talked about his really tough childhood.

1. I was awarded The Distinguished Flying Cross after flying 35 missions in Europe during WWII.

2. I got a Ph. D. in history.

3. My grandfather was an alcoholic; my father, a preacher, worked in the coal mines from the age of nine.

5. Once, after being heckled, I famously told the heckler, "I've got a secret for you," then said softly into his ear, "Kiss my a**!". Unfortunately for me, it was picked up by a live mic.

LOL. Not Pat.

7. By the close of 1961, the Food for Peace program I headed was operating in a dozen countries, and 10 million more people had been fed with American surplus than the year before. In February 1962, I visited India and oversaw a greatly expanded school lunch program thanks to Food for Peace; subsequently one in five Indian schoolchildren would be fed from it, and by mid-1962, 35 million children around the world.

8. I once said, "For many years, I wanted to run for the presidency in the worst possible way – and last year I sure did."

Very close.

9. I said of one of my opponents, ""I'm tired of old men dreaming up wars for young men to fight. If he wants to use American ground troops in Cambodia, let him lead the charge himself."
