Good one, Cliff! (And S2000).

My next guess would have been Jack Lemon, because of the Operation Petticoat clue.

Jack Lemmon wasn't in Operation Petticoat.

Perhaps you're thinking of The Wackiest Ship in the Army.

I'll give this one a shot:

1. I was born near Dublin, Ireland.

2. While my given name is Biblical, I'm better known by a nickname.

3. I was bedridden with an unknown illness, so I didn't start school until I was 7 years old.

I still recall the day I met Beaker from the Muppets. He said to me "Meep, meep, mee mee mee Meep!", and that has made all the difference.

I'm a theater history guy, so the Lyceum clue led me to thinking about Stoker who was basically a pr guy for 19th century actors. The Biblical name clue sealed it for me.

1. I founded a weekly newspaper--though that wasn't my major claim to fame.
2. I was on the Board of Trustees of a major university--though that wasn't my major claim to fame.
3. I co-founded a transportation company--though that wasn't my major claim to fame.

4. I was an elected public official--though that wasn't my major claim to fame.
5. One of my legislative accomplishments was overturned in 1965 by the Supreme Court.

9. I asked the Evening Sun to print my obituary just prior to my death so that I might read it.

10. One of my favorite words was also the favorite word of a character in a holiday story.

Not Mr. Clemens.

11. I'm not known as a fiction writer like Mr. Twain, but I've told my share of whoppers, for sure---and I got paid handsomely for them.

12. I created America's first aquarium.
