Neither David nor Sir Lawrence.

6. While serving tea one afternoon I caught the eye of a producer, who cast me as "Dusty" in the children's serial, The Adventures of Dusty Bates.

We could use another clue, Bill. Not having grown up in the U.S. -- and in fact not having grown up with TV at all -- I've never heard of The Adventures of Dusty Bates.

Precious few Americans will have heard of it; it's British.

Nor was it on television; it was a five-part children's movie serial.

7. Another early movie rôle of mine was to play the Artful Dodger in Oliver Twist.

Now that movie I've heard of! Although there have been more than one made. And I don't know the name of the Dodger kid in any one of them.

Oliver Reed?
For a supernatural chiller mixing magic (prestidigitation, legerdemain) with Magic (occultism, mysticism), check out my novel MAGIC: AN OCCULT THRILLER at http://www.amazon.com/Magic-Occult-Thriller-Reed-Hall/dp/1453874836

Not Athos/Proximo.

8. I later starred in a movie inspired by Elvis Presley's military service, and another whose original British title is the same as that of a James Bond film.

The former reminds me of Bye Bye Birdie, in which Bobby Rydell played the rock star character about to be drafted. But he was American.

I had to look up Jack Wild; I was unfamiliar with the name.

Alas, no, not Jack.

9. Not content with merely an acting career, I turned to pop music. I had a #3 hit in the UK with I've Waited So Long, followed by a #6 (Personality), and two #1s (Why, a Frankie Avalon hit in the US, and Do You Mind?).

That's because he was an unrepentant capitalist and we (I was there too!) were all self-proclaimed anarchists who believed everything should be free.

David Bowie? (Sorry for the two "replies" to an earlier clue that showed up at this inappropriate juncture)

No need to apologize.

I'll simply chalk it up to you having enjoyed a long holiday weekend.

Not Ziggy.

However, inasmuch as you've introduced the motif, here's another, timely, clue:

10. David Bowie was a big fan of mine. The producer of his first album, Mike Vernon, even described his first impression of Bowie as "a young [me]".

The only music artists I can think of that Bowie may have admired are Iggy Pop, and possibly Lou Reed. But I'm not sure if either of them was born in London.

So maybe we should be looking for someone who is more renowned as an actor?

Neither Iggy nor Lou is correct.

You're correct: Pop was born in Michigan, Reed in New York.

11. In addition to acting and singing, I dabbled in song writing. In 1963 I won a Grammy for Song of the Year.

Stumped.
My knowledge of British pop begins with the Beatles and Stones and my knowledge of British TV begins with The Prisoner and Monty Python.

No TV so far.

How about:

12. I wrote the lyrics for one of the best-known James Bond title songs. Someone else got the fame for singing it, however.
