Not Lancaster.
The following year I was also nominated in the same category for my role in a western film. In the 1950s, I played a wide variety of roles in movies alongside Anthony Perkins, Joan Fontaine, Robert Mitchum, Anthony Quinn, Shelly Winters, Paul Newman, Lee Marvin, Ida Lupino, Jackie Gleason, Brigitte Bardot, and many more. |

Neither of those two Richards. (Hi John -- how are you?)
In 1964, my presence at a recently-integrated movie theatre in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, prompted a riot from segregationists who assumed I was there to promote civil rights. |

Throughout the 1960s and ‘70s, I starred in a whole variety of different movies: thrillers, adventure films, comedies, war movies, westerns, crime stories, spy films, religious epics, horror films, historical dramas, etc.

In the late 1970s, I was mostly based in Italy. I supported Ursula Andress in an adventure film as well as a sexy comedy, Lee Van Cleef in a western, and Thomas Milan in a crime/comedy film.
I later said my Italian sojourn was the most enjoyable of my career: "In Italy, everyone on the set has a drinking cubicle, and no one is ever interested in working after lunch. That's a highly civilized way to make a movie.” |

In 1980, I narrated the documentary The Strongest Man in the World by Canadian filmmaker Halya Kuchmij, about Mike Swistun, a circus strongman who had been a student of Houdini's.

A not-so-well known fact about me is that I recorded a country music album which contained three of my own compositions.
I also performed on Roger Waters' first solo album. |

Not Barrymore.
Four decades after my film debut, I won an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor. When accepting my award, I dropped to the floor and demonstrated my ability, at age 73, to perform one-armed push-ups. |

I believe Roger Waters first solo work was "The pros and cons of hitch hiking." I had the album, but didn't think it was so great. For the life of me I don't remember a famous actor singing on it.

The one-handed stunt was Jack Palance, wasn't it?

That is correct, Landmark! Volodymyr Palahniuk, also known as Jack Palance.
On November 10, 2006, Palance died of natural causes at age 87 at his daughter Holly's home in Montecito, California. He has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. And in 1992, he was inducted into the Western Performers Hall of Fame at the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. ON A PERSONAL NOTE: In 1980, shortly after I (Arthur) had joined Frampton’s band, I went with Peter and his girlfriend Barbara to see a Joe Walsh concert. There were 10 chairs on one side of the stage for VIP guests. But it turned out to be just the three of us plus one other special guest: Jack Palance. I don’t know why he was there, or who had invited him, but he greeted us politely and we enjoyed the concert together. Always wished I’d had the opportunity to talk to him more! |

1. I was born in Columbus, Mississippi, but grew up in St. Louis, Missouri.
2. My father was a traveling salesman "who fell in love with long distance." 3. I wrote about someone who was "the opposite of a stage magician. He gives you illusion that has the appearance of truth. I give you truth in the pleasant disguise of illusion."

4. I didn't have my first success until I was 33. 5. My sister was institutionalized, but she inspired some of my work. 6. Clue #1 is true, but deliberate misdirection.
