I’m as big a Hammer Horror fan as I am a Universal Monsters fan, so I revere Peter Cushing and Christopher Lee as much as I do Boris Karloff and Bela Lugosi.

I was born in Toledo OH in 1916, and died in Los Angeles CA in 1988 (aged 71).
I started off in 1935 as an impressionist (in the sense of doing comedic impersonations); this led to my decades-long career in cartoon voice work, which I sustained right up until the year of my death. While Mel Blanc (the voice of so many of Warner Bros’ Looney Tunes characters — Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, Porky Pig, Elmer Fudd, et al.) may be better-known and more of a household name, I voiced many equally well-known characters from Hanna-Barbera’s stable: Yogi Bear, Huckleberry Hound, Quick Draw McGraw, Snagglepuss, Elroy Jetson, and many more (including even Cap’n Crunch).

The third clue is really my only significant claim to fame. Any other clues I could give would be mere minutiae, too trivial to be of any use.
Well, in the 1950s I did collaborate some with comedian Stan Freberg, but that’s probably not much additional help. Perhaps my identity is just too obscure or esoteric to be known by many. If so, I will meekly withdraw.

Bingo! Daws Butler it is. (I am perpetually in awe of talented voice artists such as Daws Butler, Mel Blanc, Paul Frees, and others.)
Your turn, Landmark (whom I am also perpetually in awe of).

Lol. I can't even spell the guy's name right.
1. My middle name is a geometric solid. 2. I was on the cover of Time magazine 3. Said to one of his women supporters by a store owner early in my career:'He can't play lady, what are you doing up here? The guy has two left hands.' She replied: 'You just wait, This man's a genius, you don't know anything.'

Whenever one of the jazz legends died, Leslie and I used to attend tributes to them at the Jazz Church in Manhattan, where many amazing musicians (like Dizzy Gillespie, Dave Brubeck, et al) would perform to honor their departed colleague.
Thelonious Monk’s service, his wife sat right alongside four of his mistresses! |

I hope Arthur will forgive me for not providing three clues on someone as I just got out of the hospital after a two week stint due to heart failure. Actually more lung than heart but it's all interconnected. Landmark, your third clue made me think of Monk immediately.
Someone please take my turn. I'm busy learning to deal with oxygen 24/7. |

Sending positive thoughts your way, Foolsnobody. Get well soon!
I was born as an only child in Fort Worth, Texas. However, my parents divorced ten days before my birth. When I was six, I moved with my mother and new stepfather (whose last name I took) to New York City. My grandmother taught me to read at an early age, and I made good use of her extensive library. |

I studied English composition, playwriting, and short story prose at college.
After graduation, I worked for six years as a comic book scriptwriter. It was the only long-term job I ever held. |

Initially scripting two comic-book stories a day for weekly paychecks, I soon realized I could make more money by freelance writing for comics.

Not Jim.
This situation enabled me to find time to work on my own short stories, some of which appeared for the first time in Ellery Queen's Mystery Magazine. |

My mother once told me that she had tried to abort me by drinking turpentine. Our love-hate relationship haunted me for the rest of my life, which I later fictionalized in a story about a young boy who stabs his mother to death.

I loved woodworking tools and made several pieces of furniture. In later life, I became stooped with an osteoporotic hump.

I preferred the company of animals to that of people, and stated that "I choose to live alone because my imagination functions better when I don't have to speak with people.”

I once attended a London cocktail party carrying a bag that contained a head of lettuce and a hundred snails, which I said were my "companions for the evening.”
