I see where you went with that one Landmark, nice, but not him either.
12. Till the day they passed on, I remained friends with Ernest Borgnine and Ted Knight

No not Peter, nor Dick. Gee, I didn't think this one was so hard...
13. In my second series I was a supporting actor. Still it was considered my break out role. I even got my real first wife to play my character's wife on the show.

Not Ed, not Don.
15. My birth name is Alan See. The movie "Operation Petticoat" from the late 50's was the first nautical appearance I made which would have made the name See into a pun for sea. 16. Ed Asner was once cast in a role that I auditioned for. That worked out well as the role I got instead was considered my "breakout."

17. In my breakout role, I played a writer. I may have been just a supporting actor, but I slaughtered the role and made it my own. I was nominated for two Golden Globe awards.

I think that I finally put together Ernest Borgnine, Ed Asner, and Ted Knight:
We're talking about Gavin MacLeod. Is he friends with Donald Sutherland? |

No Arthur, not them.
Honestly, this is my last clue. I don't know what else to say about the man. 18. I published a memoir called, "This is your Captain speaking." The title was based on my strongest and most memorable role.

Oops, Bill and I crossed times of posting. Yes... "Sigh" I do not know if he is friends with Donald Sutherland or not, but it is "Gavin MacLeod"

I remember him well from McHale's Navy, and also from Kelly's Heroes, before The Mary Tyler Moore Show.

Right, He left McHale's Navy for rehab. That was his second nautical role. The Love Boat, his most famous and biggest, was the third. He and his wife currently do evangelical speaking engagements.

Good one, Cliff! (And S2000).
My next guess would have been Jack Lemon, because of the Operation Petticoat clue. |

I didn't know that MacLeod was in Operation Petticoat; I was trying to figure out when Ernie Borgnine and Ted knight were in a series together.

I thought it might be him from the Princess clue, but I didn't think the other clues supported what little I knew about him.
I still recall the day I met Beaker from the Muppets. He said to me "Meep, meep, mee mee mee Meep!", and that has made all the difference.
