One of the easiest ways to deal with EGGS both real and fake is to raid the kids' toy box for plastic Easter eggs large enough to hold a real egg. I have used those for many years and prefer them to camper egg cartons. Even the Dollar Tree has them in season. Size matters!

That's what I use.
A hinged egg and I glue in a small very soft piece of sponge into each end.
