@Steven Keyl, check out pages 148,149 in Comte's book: https://socialsciences.mcmaster.ca/econ/......phy1.pdf Where he claims we could not know about star chemistry by looking.
Quote:
It is easy to describe clearly the character of astronomical science, from its being thoroughly separated, in our time, from all theological and metaphysical influence. Looking at the simple facts of the case, it is evident that though three of our senses take cognizance of distant objects, only one of the three perceives the stars. The blind could know nothing of them; and we who see, after all our preparation, know nothing of stars hidden by distance, except by induction. Of all objects, the planets are those which appear to us under the least varied aspect. We see how we may determine their forms, their distances, their bulk, and their motions, but we can never know anything of their chemical ... He was all about incorporating evidence into theory. Let's not lose two centuries by confusing models with reality... that's movie magic.

It is the models we develop on which we base our understanding of reality. We are agreed they are the same thing.

Agreed our reality gets strange when we measure things more than a million times larger or smaller than our direct observations from experience. Strange and wondrous. But simulated?
Simulations can be started/stopped, copied, parameters altered, and ... game scoring Is there any evidence of game cheats?

A fish says, "Water? Whats water?"
But the fish bumps into an iceberg thinking it is a wall. But its just water. As pointed out, as in the sun going around earth, observation is limited. As is millions of people believing some thing for a thousand years. Einstein's theory of relativity is the most tested and verified theory in physics. No one has a model of how it works but me. Einstein's general theory of relativity has an error in it. Note: I did not say wrong but in error. To see the error read Feynman's lecture on QED. I tire of people discussing the double slit experiment. The community does not understand quantum mechanics so conclusions from that experiment are pointless. I believe we live in something we can call a simulation. Could it be it is the same old universe, but like in the fish thought, it is just in a different state. I describe this in my book New Age Quantum Physics, by Al Schneider on Amazon dot com.
Magic Al. Say it fast and it is magical.

@StevenK, we experience "what is" within a narrow range of perceptions. We talk about "what is" with limited language within our limited societies. The imaginary world we construct with our perceptions or describe in language is far from complete and fully detailed.
Stiff that's smaller than a grain of salt or larger that our solar system may depend upon rules we have yet to discover.

What if all this IS reality?
What if there is no simulation, no higher thought. What if this is all there is? Imagine a world where what we do truly affects others, if even the smallest thoughtless act that hurt others, in turn causing it to hurt itself or others was our fault. Wouldn't that be far worse, and much more realistic?
Magic is doing improbable things with odd items that, under normal circumstances, would be unnessecary and quite often undesirable.
