Landing a top shot after 3 months of practice felt really good. The top shot isn't the hardest move I have ever learned; but it is a lot harder than I expected it to be. This short session came at the spur of the moment. I hadn't performed the top shot for a lay audience before, but at this point, it just felt right. And boom: it worked.

Looks like you were having fun. Way to go.
Pick a card, any card at all. Just don't pick a RED spade.

Well done, Shaun! That was enjoyable to watch. It was smooth and well executed. My only advice would be to continue working on your palm. There's a noticeable hesitation during the action, and your palming hand looks rather "full" and leaden when it drops to the table.
Otherwise, great work! Thanks for sharing, Shaun. |

That was great. You know you're good when the audience is pleading for more.

Thank you for the encouragement and suggestion. I was having fun! The top palm and its stiff hand popped out at me too. It's good to know that's an area for improvement.

As usually advised, to improve your « palm attitude », have a palmed card all the day long, doing things with this hand, a,d very fast you will have a relaxed and natural looking hand. Sometimes it’s better to have little gaps between fingers, allowing the card to be seen by a keen observant spectator, instead of allowing nothing to be seen but having a crisp and suspicious hand. I have seen top pros flashing with palming, but they are never caught.

Thank you Rachmaninov. That's helpful advice, and it reminds me that I have been experimenting with the little gaps between the fingers and the correct angle of the gaps to the audience's eyes. There is a certain amount of faith I need to develop in that technique for my whole attitude to relax. Also, since I have been top palming to reduce the gaps (which leads to that stiff looking hand) for so long, deep time will be necessary before this new attitude flows into my performances, which tend to adopt the approaches I have most practiced.
