I am thinking aout doing this for a public stunt. What are some surefire ways to keep your feet secured to the cable atop the crain?

What ever you use include a safty line. That is a rope or chain and rope is less pain. Tie this to the cable and to your ankle. Leave enough slack so it does not put any pressure on you but snug enought that if your other rig let go you you not drop far before it stops you. You don't want to dop more than a few inches. I always used rope doubled tied around and through my ankles. It lets you hang like a battery strap and I wraped my legs with padding. But the main thing is an extra safty line. And if your concerned at all run two saftey ropes, one to each ankle. Norm Bigelow

I'm presently using a 2" wide endless loop made for lifting with cranes. With some padding the 2" spreads the pinch out. Being 'endless' it is also easy to put on since you loop it through itself and then over the hook of the crane.
Meanwhile I'm developing a 'body harness' that will shift the weight to the shoulders thereby using the spine as normal rather than pulling on it. It would be worn under the clothing and is a redundant system for safety. I should have a final working model in about a week- I'll post more about it then. |

There are many new types of webbing and cordage that can be used for both ankle straps and a safety line. Rock climbing cordage is very strong and is made from different materials such as kevlar, spectra, dyneema, technora and other "stronger than steel" fibers. I use cordage for climbing anchors made from technora that is only 5mm thin. You can use nylon webbing for ankle straps. I suggest you check out some climbing gear websites (mgear.com) as well as bungee jumping gear.

Hi
Have a look at the bungee jumping harness, but also use climbing harness with wire strop as a safety. Paula
