I have an effect which combines 2 old techniques into an impromptu effect with business cards. All you need is business cards and a pen.
I think it would be a success with layman and a good go to effect for “show me a trick”. I intend to publish this as a download but have never published before. Is Penguin Partner Program the best route? I’ve read somewhere that these is also the “sponsored route” and that the difference is that in the Program you do the videos and they take care of the rest while on the Sponsored route the distributor does everything. On the program you make a higher % but on the Sponsored its better marketed. To be honest, my main interest is getting this produced at the best quality and getting the best distribution. The % comes secondary. I could do all the filming on my own but I’m not sure it would be as slick. Having said that I sure I can film a live performance and instruction. Not sure about the advertising video. Do people who go the Partner program also film the ad / trailer? Finally is Penguin the best route for a download? Or should I look elsewhere? Which is the best route to go / best way for me to approach this? I have searched the Café but stuff I found was pretty old. Thank you in advance!!!! |

What exactly do you mean by "I think it will be a success with laymen"?

Penguin partner is just dandy. It’s a solid way to get eyeballs on a new product release. I don’t think it’s that advantageous to pay them more for “advertising.”
Keep the highest percentage you can. Market yourself on Café, fb

I just submitted 2 performances and the explanation to Penguin. I got a response from Shaun Dunn "Your effect looks great." So I'm super excited about this. I ask them to provide some feedback on what I sent and if they have any guidelines. I need to add another performance with an alternative handling which may be preferred and probably re-do the explanation. I have a friend who has filming experience so maybe I'll talk to him instead of me asking friends to film.
I'll probably give Penguin a call and see if I can talk to someone. @ Saysold: I can understand. I was wondering though that if they do it and have a higher take then maybe they do a) a much better job in presenting the effect and b) give it more exposure. I'm more interested in the exposure than the profit as I have a full-time job (not magic) and it's my first effect so would like it to go well. It's not a magician fooler imho but that doesn't mean it won't be liked or used. I think magicians with a few years experience may figure it out. I can see a few saying "Why didn't I think of that" |
