When it come to pumps and balloons,T. Myers
has few equals. I have a Pump 1 and it has paid for itself many time over in quality alone. I purchase all of my balloons from them. The best balloons are the Qualatex and Prestige brands. I use both brands and have had only good results. Happpy Twisting!

I second Rob's endorsement for Qualitex balloons. Great quality and selection!
As far as pumps go though I still favor my "floor model" balloon pump that I purchased from Clown City in Connecticut USA. It is a bit pricey but well within the price range of other floor type pumps. I HIGHLY recommend this pump, it really is worth the money. peace, phill

Here's a link to a picture of mine. It is a floor model as well. If you want to save a bit of money and still get a quality pump, then the Pump 0 is also a good choice.

I get allmost all my balloon stuff from T. Myers. I don't like to echo other peoples posts, but "T" is the best.

My T. Myers pump was awesome, and served me well, and I buy almost all my balloon supplies from T., but I found a pump a little lighter, and doesn't "draw" from the bottom of the pump (which can be a problem if you're working on a dirt/dust floor). I don't know if the guy's still around, but he was in Baton Rouge, and his business was "Balloon Buddies". His pump is a little lighter, and the handle was part of the base, and not the part that slides. Makes it a little easier to carry around. It was/is called the "Balloon Master" pump.

For times you don't have your pump and someone asks you to make a sword for their kid learn how to use your lungs.

Be aware of the health issues that are involved in doing mouth inflations. I wouldn't recommend that to anyone.

A lot of stage/parlour performers use their mouth rather than pump to inflate balloons during their show.

I inflate balloons by mouth also. I also eat fire, juggle torches and smear grease on my face before going to work in the morning. There are health risks involved with all of those things. I'm not saying don't do it. I'm just saying don't blow up balloons everyday for the next thirty years and then wonder why you have spots on you lungs, a latex allergy, TMJ and bad hearing. It's part of the job.

Using a pump is cheating. It's like an artist using "paint by numbers" while painting. It just ain't right. If you're going to do balloons, do it right. I'm sorry if I offend some of you pumpies, but I call things the way I see them. Get used to it.

I performed an entire parade and after about 4 gross of balloons by mouth, I hit the proverbial wall and got a lot of air trapped in my saliva glands. I still inflate a few by mouth now and then when performing impromptu but when wearing the nose, I try to set the positive example that balloons do not go in the mouth. I you consider that cheating, then go ahead and play by the rules you wrote. I'll keep my pump busy with the balloons and my ears, throat and saliva glands intact and happy. Besides, my job is to be funny. Telling jokes is a lot harder with a balloon in your mouth and your air being wasted to fill it up.

Get used to it. ============================================= You are exactly right using a pump to blow up balloons is cheating. Just like using a PA. Why don’t people learn to project their voice? In fact if your really going to do it right you should walk to your gig instead of driving and what’s up with gimmicks and sleight of hand we should be using MAGIC. Seriously, balloon bending is about bending balloons and giving them to people. Anything that helps accomplish that goal should used. Everyone (most everyone) who has been in the balloon bending business started by blowing them with lungpower. Often after some bad event (loosing voice, popping blood vessel in eye, sheer exhaustion) many switch to some kind of pump. Remember blowing up one or two balloons is no big deal, but blowing up balloons for hours at a time is another thing. I would NOT recommend anyone blow up balloons with lungpower. Chris |

I can blow up 3 gross without stopping. Not bad for a 72 year old geeser. If you're getting tired, laddy, you are doing it WRONG. Your diaphram is like a muscle, and the more you use it, the stronger it gets. Balloon pump? NEVER!
