Prior to E picking it up from Tobias, I had heard first hand from a very trustworthy and well known source that this effect was absolutely astounding. My criticisms were with the demo video because this is one of the rare occasions where an uncut live performance trailer of a product actually does not do the product justice due to how much of it is taking advantage of subconscious and psychological tendencies. There's several layers to this which would make it so that the spectator would not realize they are holding their own phone until you point it out to them in the end. One is the misdirection provided by the flash, the others I had listed out in an earlier post on this page. |

I loved the creativity in Silhouette and I love this concept as well. Bravo, Tobias! I will be checking this out. What a great idea.
One thing I wonder: any clothing restrictions for the s***** and vanish? When I perform I always wear a jacket and a blouse, so no problem there. But is there a -good- method taught for when you just wear jeans and a sweater? I would like to use this in social settings as well. And I'm far too lazy to iron a blouse when I'm not working.

You are right kissdadookie. Yes there is much more going on.
I really look forward to get it myself. It will be really fun to perform! It is not “self working” and deserves a lot of practice as your performance will be on video when the trick is over. |

Yeah I think the flashlight is vital, probably it needs to blind them a little when they look at it. But maybe he managed to get a flashlight that is so bright that it also does that in daylight. I have experiences flashlights that will blind you even when the sun is out.

They just make batches, so worst case scenario one batch is sold out and you will have to wait for another one. They are trying to wind you up, but in this case there is no need to hurry. Just like Silhouette this might sell out quickly but will then be available again. It’s not a nice way to market though, I agree. Sadly E’s marketing generally isn’t. Their new mentalism kit and the way they created a target group by in essence addressing them as boring virgins being the lowlight IMO.

I like most find the premise interesting. At first I thought it would suck if they notice it’s their phone that you pass them, however there is still the magical moment of vanishing a phone in the clean and fair manner that appears in the trailer. The fact the flashlight on the phone means it is a performance piece for the right lighting, but I do think at the right time and the right place it’s a killer, and let’s be honest, most of us have that one trick that we keep for that ‘right time , right place’ moment

I find a lot of my adult strolling magic to be in what may be the right toned down kind of lighting.
As you can see for the performance where Jon Stessel is reacting it is in a Casino which isn’t too dark and it still seems to fly. I do Double Exposure quite a bit and can see this being a nice quick piece of magic to do afterward. Let’s hope it’s workable |

You’re probably not going to be doing this outside in broad daylight. It would need to be a situation whereby the flashlight dominates over the background light considerably.

I think this is a VERY clever use of misdirection.
Having spectators focusing on the video on the screen, completely blinds them of the phone. I'm sure that the vanish and reproduction is awesome and will produce immediate reactions of wonder. Tobias is BRILLIANT in creating truly magical moments! My only problem with this effect is, as cool and original as it is, when spectators backtrack, the only possible method IS the method. They might not know when the switch happened, but they know it MUST of happened. Greg R. |

On Dec 14, 2019, Greg Rostami wrote: I agree with you completely, except one thing: backtracking magic tricks happens more often than we hope I reckon. People with a general knowledge of physics know you can't levitate Heidi Klum on AGT without her knowing and without any special apparatus or they know you can't walk through the Great Wall of China ... they know that something had happened that they missed. That's what creates the magic in their heads. Even if they know in the end of the routine that you had switched phones, they're still puzzled where the phone in the performer's hands went. Even if they look at the video a hundred times they wouldn't know. Long story short: that is why I think this effect will blow them away regardless of knowing that there was a switch (a term and action so many are familiar with these days, thanks for instance to very plain effect descriptions for instance on Penn and Teller). My two cents |

This is totally amazing and bold, I love it.
Not suitable for all occasions outside during the day etc, but in the evenings outside or most indoor functions walk around etc. It is becoming increasingly hard to find money to borrow at gigs but phones - defiantly no shortage!

I have had the pleasure of watching Tobias develop this piece over the past year or two.
I absolutely love it. The trick is so simple. 1) The performer borrows your phone. 2) Gives you his/hers to film with. 3) Does an incredibly clean and "visual" vanish. and then... 4) The magician slowly (and think about this as it can't really be shown in a snappy trailer) lets it dawn on you that you are holding your vanished phone. It's a very magical and satisfying moment of surprise, charm, and intrigue. The various prototypes of the gimmick have been extensively refined. It's a very satisfying "James Bond-ish" kinda thing. Tobias's attention to detail and his handlings are excellent. He's really really thought about this. S |
