I pulled out my copy of Liam Montier's "Essential Card Magic Toolbox" DVD set yesterday to check some forces on the "Forces Project" DVD and remembered that there are effects on each DVD! From that "re-discovery" I'll add Maurice Fogel's "Triple Prediction" to the list. I'm pretty sure I knew this trick in my youth and forgot all about it. It is an excellent self working trick that can be performed impromptu when someone asks you to do a trick on a moments notice and hands you their shuffled deck. Only needs one deck and is thus more versatile than the venerable two deck "Do as I Do." I showed it to the Mrs. It elicited a "That's impossible!" She said add it to her list of fav's !

Maurice Fogel's "Triple Prediction" is a fantastic effect, thanks for reminding me! I first learned it in Eugene Burger's "Intimate Power" (and included later in "Mastering The Art Of Magic" along with his presentation for OOTW). Another great Eugene Burger virtually self worker is "Easy Spelling" from the above mentioned sources. Thanks again for this great post!

Yet another great post, EG. 😊👍🏽

And y’know, kinda surprised here not to see mentioned, the old Circus Card Trick. It’s another one that comes to mind behind this terrific string, and that its basic workings can be presented in various ways makes it one for the ages, IMHO...I actually still do a version of it, and still recommend it to young magicians.

I don’t know about it being one of the 10 best in the world here, but it sure should make the cut as to one of very best ever. It’s darn easy to do (I learned it as a kid) and it still always amazes! 😉

I heartily agree about this being a classic, and worth recommending to young magicians.

I wrote up a separate list of 10 self-working card tricks to recommend for complete beginners, and the Circus Card trick is #5 on that list Smile

Here's that article: 10 Classic Self-Working Card Tricks for Complete Beginners

? Lazy Man's Card Trick (Koran/Lorayne)

The effect: This trick has its name because the spectator does all the work. They freely select any card from the deck, which they remember, and return to the deck, and cut the deck multiple times. Then you tell them exactly how deep in the deck their chosen card is! You count down to that number, and sure enough, there it is.

What's good about it: This trick produces reactions of amazement, since you don't touch the deck at all after giving it to the spectator. This makes it all the more baffling to the audience, because they have been making all the decisions and doing all the handling. They freely select a card of their choice, they cut it numerous times. And yet despite it being completely out of your control, you can tell exactly how far into the deck their card is. When presented well, it can be a real killer, despite how easy it actually is.

Background: This trick is variously attributed, with both Al Koran and Harry Lorayne being credited at different times and in different sources, although Jack Miller's "The Travelling Card" is likely the original source. This trick has even been performed on TV by magicians.

In Close-Up Card Magic (pp 199-200) Harry Lorayne credits Al Koran with teaching it to him and says that Al credited the principle behind it to Professor Miller. He says he got permission from both of them to publish it. So there's Harry's take.

Harry Lorayne's presentation is my favorite to watch though. His timing and manner are excellent. Truly one of my favorite tricks.
