For some reason, I seem to have more trouble finding that "comfortable place" to perform in a mall, as opposed to on the street.
Any suggestions? Where in a mall is a good place for street magic, and how are some good ways to go about this...

Although I haven't done any street magic, I would suggest you check with the mall's owners/management to see if it's okay for you to perform.
If it is, perform near the entrance. |

Shopping malls are rarely "public streets". They are normally "private streets". They survive because tenants pay rents. Anyone else is either a guest or trespasser. Always check in at the mall business office to get permission first. Don't be surprised when you don't receive it.
For many years I did stage shows in malls paid for by the mall or the merchants' association. Malls are a very controlled private environment aimed at serving specific consumers and specific merchants. They normally will not tolerate any interruption of that environment. They have that right. Be careful to honor that property right. They are also great places to do magic when you are invited. When I worked them they paid considerably better than cruise ships. And there was more work. One of the companies for whom I performed owned fifty-two malls. It kept me busy. Good luck! Bob The Amazed Wiz |

I was hired by a tenant of a mall for a "Santa arrives at the mall" special. I was to stand outside the entry and do magic to attract people into the store, much like a trade show magician.
The floor tile changed colour at the about 2 feet into the mall itself and the line of colour change marked my boundry. When I tried to step to the side so that I wasn't directly in the entry itself and there was enough room for people to enter and exit both. MAN!!!! Security was all over me like flies on sugar if I stepped anyplace outside of the store boundry. It was fun, got hired again this last Christmas season. But I was surprised how testy the mall can be.
