DESCRIPTION
PRODUCT INFO VIDEO You Know offers a powerful demonstration of foresight that is so direct, so fair and so utterly baffling. It employs an ancient, underused principle that has been dusted off and modernized with new twists to create a stunning hands-off prediction. Check out the full performance in the trailer to see just how impossible this routine really is. So what's the effect? A pack of UNO cards is introduced and a participant names any of the four colors in the game to be their target color. They take the UNO cards and genuinely shuffle them into a truly random order. If they chose the color GREEN, for example, they now look through the shuffled cards and remove the first three GREEN cards they come to. These cards are placed into a row on the table and their values are added. Let’s say they removed a 4, 8 and 5 for a sum of 17. An envelope, that has been on the table, is now turned over to show just one number was written on it... 17! This impressive feat does not end there. Inside the envelope is a prediction of the SPECIFIC COLOR they named and the EXACT THREE NUMBERS they arrived at! Ends clean No gimmicks No sleight of hand Super easy to do On the 40 minute tutorial, tons of extra ideas and variations are covered, as well as a myriad of ways to incorporate the concepts into a variety of larger routines (e.g. book tests, pin code revelations, etc.). You Know provides an engaging change of pace from run-of-the-mill card tricks, so download it today to learn one of the strongest effects you can do with a pack of UNO cards! https://www.davidjonathanmagic.com/produ......8507afd1 |

It has a nice hook. It gets away from regular cards for a bit (which is nice) but can be done with regular cards too (which is also nice). The principle is clever and fooling. this can be done almost totally in the spectators hands and the small part you do may not even be remembered as you are simply showing them what to do. Crediting is given (almost 100 years ago) and in the end you have a great cross between a mentalism effect and a multiple prediction card effect that will fit into either genre of magic (or both together).
The effect itself is easy in that there are no knuckle busting card moves (and no Elmsley Counts) The spectator can really do 95% of the work. I think for me, I will grab an UNO deck and show this to some younger folks and use it as a nice opener using an "everyday item" (of course I grew up in an era where everyone owned and still owns an UNO deck) then I can lead them down the path to regular card/coin effects. One of the really nice aspects of this effect is that it has multiple kickers, without overdoing it and the prediction is in plain sight thru the effect. Also, you can easily show "proofs" that several simple different choices along the way would have resulted in a different outcome than the written prediction. Pocket space is very minimal other than the UNO deck, which could be borrowed. The teaching video is a private Vimeo clocking in at just over 40 mins with a timestamp menu in the beginning. It is very well put together and not full of "Fluff" or the dreaded "overexplaining". Different details that you probably want to write down or take notes is boldly and colorfully left onscreen long enough to hit pause and copy down the part you need. All that said, I did get a review copy to look over, give feedback and post a review (optional). Those who know me also know my reviews are non biased and if I see a problem or a flaw, I point them out. I would have given it 4 1/2 out of 5 stars simply because the UNO deck would be yet another deck to carry or borrow ---BUT--- I will give it a solid 5 out of 5 because he goes over how to do it with a regular deck, so - no extras if you choose the latter. It is not a long tutorial on the regular deck but the gist is a no brainer (substitute the 4 suits for the 4 colors and use the spot cards that match the UNO numbers. Not rocket science). Here again is the link https://www.davidjonathanmagic.com/produ......8507afd1 and for the price, it is well worthwhile (I think it could easily be a $15 or $20 video considering some of the stuff put out on other sites that give you far less for more. Grab it up before he changes his mind.

I assume that as in the performance you cannot bring out the prediction until after the color is named? Can you use a 4-way out device instead?

Thanks for taking the time to review this, Poof - glad you like it.
To answer the above questions... yes, the spectator riffle shuffles. On the tutorial I discuss options for how you can have the prediction out in full view from the start, it comes down to your preference. |

I just picked this up and watched the video. I will say that I had figured it out before purchasing, but I love David's thinking, and always find I get great value out of his effects -- plus I knew there would be additional thoughts and subtleties that I'd never figure out on my own. And, all that was true. The effect is basically what is shown. It is incredibly easy to do and I am always a fan of magic that involves the specs themselves doing the shuffling. And, David's nuances and thoughts were fantastic and made this much more practical than if I'd tried to do something similar on my own.
The one thing I'll note is that while it's easy and clever and effective and has multiple kickers, I don't think I'll perform the main You Know effect. This is just down to personal preference, but I'm less of a fan of straight up open prediction (or semi-open prediction) effects, as to me they always imply a force (even when it's not true). But the thing that I *will* use are some of the other suggestions that David had, including how to use this in a book test or other routine (I have some other nefarious ideas...). In other words, the effect is great and easy. The teaching is great. And even if the main effect is not for you, you might still get something useful out of it. I did. |

I just bought this and I'm really pleased. Being a total newbie, I like the fact it can be used with regular cards too.
BTW, since my kids are all grown and on their own, we got rid of most of our board/card games long ago including UNO. I went to buy a UNO deck and there about 100 to choose from....what ever happened to just UNO |

Lol now that's a kicker ending!
Its actually insane how many variants of UNO that Mattel has released... here is a full list of them: http://www.geekyhobbies.com/uno-games-th......pinoffs/ There's even a version called "DOS!" where, you guessed it, you yell out "DOS!" when you have two cards left. Also, fun fact... UNO cards are printed by Cartamundi (who just acquired USPCC). It would be great if they would produce deluxe UNO cards on playing card stock as a higher quality option - at least that would make more sense to me than producing "DOS!", but what do I know... |
