Another "new" video download. Similar to B'Wave. Not much "hype" on the description page.

I would normally be the one to remember where this has been published in book format, but I'm coming up empty right now. Anyone else remember if this has been put out in the printed format by Mr. Regal?

His last few releases thru Penguin (since his new book came out) have all been either in print or on a previously released dvd. Granted, there may be some updates and newer tips on these new releases of old effects. The price won't break you but I have all the books and prefer that medium first.

Which Nick Trost effect is this based on? I can’t find anything for Nick Trost under the name ‘Copycat' on Conjuring Archive.

That is correct. Aldo Colombini had this out many years ago also.

Hmmm in the 80s I bought a set of packet tricks from, I think, Ron Frost and included was all 8 , 8 of hearts and 2 9 of spades. Same trick. I could be wrong if it was from Frost but the point is I have been doing this for a long time and do not see what is different. Only thing I did not do was "shuffle" my packet. I do not think it matters.

Ah thanks. I was looking for Kopy Kat under the wrong spelling.
Looks like the changes here are that the total number of cards is reduced from 12 to 8 allowing the magi to match where the face up card is inserted (clever). And the black cards have big X’s drawn on them instead of using duplicates of the same card in Trost’s original. That’s about it. |

Vinny Sagoo has a version called The Experiment that uses ESP Cards instead - coincidentally David Regal reviewed it https://www.themagiccafe.com/forums/view......start=20

Hi All -
Yes, this is my handling/touches on Nick Trost's Kopy Kat, and Nick Trost deserves to be front and center. I put it out as a download through Penguin for one simple reason: Every time I show the effect to a magician who does not know the trick, they LOVE it and want to learn it. Nick Trost created some wonderful effects, and this is one of them. So yes, if you know the trick you can see my touches on the demo and do it my way, if you'd like. For those who do NOT know the Trost effect, however, this is Christmas all over again. What a great effect to add to one's repertoire. Again, although I like the additions I made to it, it is Nick Trost who should be credited with Kopy Kat - that is why I called my slightly altered version "Trost-Worthy." What a clever card guy he was. |

I did not notice any additions to make it different.

Someone should create a star sign version, where you hand the spec 6 cards, you have 6, you hand them one card, they hand you one, when revealed the card they handed you which is face up in your packet is your star sign, and the card you handed them is their star sign, you then turn the others over and they are all blank.
(Obviously you'd have to know their their sign ahead of time to get the apppropiate card ready!) Make it yourself, buy https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Star-Signs-Zo......Kdhdec~5 and get 12 blank cards |

I like that idea. You could get their sign from the Cipher app, and they would be none the wiser

(Also, Mr. Harry Baron's https://www.kaymarmagic.com/products/wha......xclusive )
I've 'tweaked' it. Spec. receives 7 red-backed, & I display 7 blue-backed, all face-down. After the exchange, & cut, the spread shows the matching cards, & all others are blank-faced, when they are turned over. Hi Mr. Regal p.s. Mr. Regal's is less expensive! |

This is exactly the same as a trick I purchased from Daytona Magic at a convention a few years ago. Don't remember the name. It's a good trick and gets great reactions from spectators.

...not to be confused with Peter Duffie's effect from, "Effortless Card Magic" which is also called,"Trost-Worthy".

I have Peter Duffie's "Effortless Card Magic" and his Trost-Worthy is a totally different trick

This trick is so simple yet it’s definitely a hard-hitting winner. So counter-intuitive. Good stuff.

First, I’m a HUGE fan of both Trost and Regal.
But a magic buddy showed me this trick a few years ago. He got part way through and I told him exactly what was happening. It seemed so obvious to me. And I don’t say this to brag because I’m horrible at sussing out methods and have such a bad memory that you could fool me with a trick I had performed for years if I hadn’t performed it for 6 months. I thought it was something my buddy had created but he told me no, it’s in Trost's book. I honestly didn’t believe him until he showed me. I still couldn’t believe it. That’s the only reason I even remember seeing this trick. So while I’m sure there are many that get great reactions with this, I just can’t bring myself to do it. It just seems so ridiculously transparent to me and again, I almost never feel like that. Usually everything fools me. |
