Due to an accident, I recently lost all use of my right hand until who knows when. I am now realizing how important having two functioning hands are! Any suggestions of what I can do with one hand?

You should talk to Mike Elkan, a magician at the Magic Castle, who has the use of only one hand, and who does wonderful magic. I don't have his contact info, but someone around here probably does.

Also check with Funsway here on the Café. He sent me a document a while back that is about one-hand magic. I was playing with an idea at the time of playing a tabor pipe while doing tricks. He has some good thinking that may be helpful to you.

Other than Rene Lavande, I hadn’t heard of a one handed magician until Dana mentioned Mike Elkan in this thread.

If you are good with the verbal elements of performance, also check out Rick Maue’s work on what he calls VDM magic. (Venus De Milo could do it, he says.)

Very sorry to hear about your accident ...
hope you recover soon.

I would recommend "Decisions" by Mozique.

Of course you would put the cards in your pocket to mix them.

I would think that most self working card mgic is accessible to you. If you are talking bout sleight of hand then look into the Levand books.

ish....im sure he thinks of his hands as his hands... I say sure .... I am not sure at all .... I assume maybe incorrectly! Maybe he sees his hands as his super-cool magic tools. Smile

He can’t do slieghts in the traditional sense, but like Lavand, Elkan and others like him, he has figured out a way.
If you want to do something badly enough, you’ll figure something out.
