I have not seen it mentioned anywhere, perhaps it is said in the Penguin Lecture, which I do not have, but this routine does remind me a lot on "Time Piece" by Darwin Ortiz, published also 25 years ago. Ortiz has structured his routine with three reveals, the last one also as an engraving. Comes as a totally blow off to the audience since the backside of the watch has been shown at the beginning of the routine with an inscription about Time... Very nice theatre from Mr. Ortiz. Just wanted to mention the Ortiz routine for those interested to compare and not to hijack this thread.

Of course, I know Ortiz' creation which is excellent, but so much different (technical, approach, plot, presentation ...). You have to lay out the cards on a table, you need two watches, a, you have to stay for a while with your back towards your spectators (what I personal do not like..), the spectator has to move cards under the table from the top of the deck to the bottom ...

My initial inspiration was Carlhorst Meier's "Ihre Schicksalsstunde" ("Your Hour of Fate", a version of Paul Curry's classic clock tricks), which was first published in "Magie" (February 1992) and then later again the same year in Roberto Giobbi's "roberto extra-light" under the same title (page 85 ff). That was my starting point from where I moved forward. You'll find these credits and more of them all in the booklet you receive with the package of "The Mascot". Jan
